Just found this about this particular pub and the comments say it is shut for a refurbishment at the moment. Not sure of any more information, but i thought it might help certain members on visits to London.

And due to be renamed (well returned to its previous name) as the Windsor Castle.

In quite a few cases Samuel Smith's seem to change the name back to the original one or anotehr histroic character or place.

I quite like pubs returning to their original names.  I know of a pub called the Holt Arms.  It is named after a local land owner of times gone by.  If I am not mistaken, the name was changed to the Holt Arms over 200 years ago, but the villagers still call the pub "The Foot", which is an abbreviation of "Foot of the Causeway".

I'm desperate to find out when The Cardinal is going to re-open.  I take a large group there every April and can't find out any information..any body got any ideas?  I can't even find a contact number for Sam Smiths!

First, welcome to the forum.  If you start to use this forum on a regular basis, you will soon discover that Samuel Smith's Brewery is a fairly secretive organisation.  As regards The Cardinal, I would bet that the first you hear of it re-opening is when it has actually re-opened...this will happen with no fanfare whatsoever!

No worries.  The Brewery are adept at not saying much about much.  My advice is that if you know someone who lives near the Cardinal then get them to keep an eye on it...you'll get much better information from them than the Brewery!  The Brewery won't even tell you how many pubs they have!

I had a phone call to Sam Smiths returned last night.  A very informative call from Mark Butler informing me that the Windsor Castle (The Cardinal), was due to re-open at the end of March subject to new windows being finished.  Good news for me!

You are a lucky customer to get a call from the Estate Manager about one of the Samuel Smiths pubs. As normally they are very secretive about the pub estate.
