I can see why Sam Smith's doesn't have an official website. The food we were served at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese yesterday was the most disgusting I've had in Britain in ten years. They closed the chop room, where we wanted to eat, long before the official time, forcing us into the arms of the microwaved contents of tins that were 'made to order'. At ?7.75 for fish and chips which were barely warm, with tinned peas on the side, I was livid. The service was atrocious, culminating in my friend's plate being taken away while he was still eating from it!

I've been a fan of Sam Smith's for a long time, probably going to one once a week on average. I'm rethinking that now.

This sadly not uncommon post highlights the key issue for me - the company in the form of Mr Humphrey Smith really doesn't care what customers think - I'm pretty sure I've seen on here a quote from an internal memo he sent last year admitting as much. It seems his attitude can be summed up as - 'if you don't like it go elsewhere'. Now we all know this is completely counter both to common sense and normal business practice - but then what if anything about this company conforms to 'normal' practice?! I guess if you were to corner him (and avoid being barred) he'd say 'you've got good cheap beer - you want MORE?!!!!'

Seems more than a coincidence - I had the same for a couple of weeks, then it came back again after another visit to that place. Three other I know of have had the same complaint. Looks like a bit of a hygiene problem going on!?
These are sad times :(

If a number of people drinking at the same place are all experiencing similar adverse health problems, then I would suggest someone contacts their local authority, and ask them to take some samples for analysis. If it's then found that the problem lies with poor hygiene management, then taking some legal action may be a good idea.

Went in the Berkeley Hotel on Saturday in Scunthorpe it was quite busy mainly with the older end,not sure if the tap room was busy. The managers of course were working with one staff, not sure if they were reliefs,he was as live as a blown bulb, she was ok.What I did look at was the menu,it was quite extensive, usual pies etc,but there was an 8oz Rump steak at ?8.95 and a 10oz Gammon at 10.95 plus sandwiches avaiable.Has the Hump decided to provide some decent food at last, are there any other pubs with this type of menu

Have you got that price right..?10.95 for a Gammon steak?

And yes, this menu has been around for several months now, its an alternative to the totally "ping pie" menu and is being rolled out across the country as far as I can see.

The thing is, instead of the stubborn old get admitting he has bollocksed up his food trade outright and coming clean, he is steadily re-introducing a slightly more palatable menu and hoping things will go back to normal takings wise and that no body noticed he f--cked up.

But ?10.95 for a gammon is outrageously expensive for a Sams pub.

Beware the toes you tread on today are not attached to the leg that supports the arse that you are gonna have to kiss tomorrow.

by all accounts and what you read - sams could have a great website that could sell beer via an online shop (bottled beers) - in most of the traditional beer roundups I have seen over the summer (well, when it was supposed to be sunny here!) they all mentioned fruit beer and others from his range.
