12-30 is late enough have'nt you all got families to go home to. I think it is better to be home to let the New Year in.

Surely it's all about having the choice to stay open so those of us who like to go out at New Year at least have the opportunity to do so in their local, instead of being forced elsewhere.

What a boring prat A. TWT sounds. I think it is best he spends New Year at home, he probably would not recognise the real world out enjoying themselves. Still if he wants to start a ''go home early'' crusade, I bet he only has to walk into a pub & everyone does just that!! There's one in every pub>

Apparently the New Year's Eve extension in my local means the bar closes at 11.50 and everyone has to vacate the premises by 12.30, i.e. ''can you drink up'' will be called at 12.20.

Not much festive spirit in that!

I think I may find a different pub where the hours are more flexible and suit the occasion. I expect a lot of others will do the same so how much are Sam's going to lose in takings across 250 - 300 pubs?

New Years Eve closing midnight sounds okay.

'andrewtwelvetrees' - so I take it you don't celebrate the coming of the New Year in 'market rason'? Although I'm a little surprised you can't correctly spell the name of your home town - Market Rasen (with an 'e')!

However, I would be interested in the name of your local if it is also in Market Rasen - as we don't appear to have it listed in our archives (yet?).
Haven't been there long, used to live in Scunthorpe and one of my locals was the Berkeley.
