That's what comes of all this idiotic pressure Humph puts on them.  This illusive 5% that his majesty insists on can't be done in the real, ligitimate, world.  Unfortunately he can't understand this, because he has never run a pub in his life.  It is a terrible thing when managers have to resort to this sort of disgusting trick just to try and appease this moron.  It begs the question- how many tun dishes are being discreetly used??

About 35 years ago I had a little part time job in a bar (not SS).

At the end of the night all the slops was put back into the mild barrel.

The only drinks that did not go back, was drinks with cordial in it.

I thought this sort of trick was stopped years ago,it used to be common in the days of filter papers and wooden barrels, but it looks like sams are after every penny no matter how unhygienic,it needs stamping out now.

Sam's do still have wooden barrels, but the use of a tun dish is supposedly forbidden.  But to reach his mythical 5% it may be that some people have resorted to using them.
With all due respect Ian, 35 years ago it was standard practice that all slops were filtered back into the mild.  We should have progressed since then, but Humph is exerting extra-ordinary and unfair pressure on his managers.

I know it doesn't happen in my local, can't believe they can get away with it,it's a disgusting practice and one I actually hope Humphrey stamps out. Humps doesn't allow a tun dish on the premises and if you are found with one its instant dismissal.

It doesn't happen in mine bubble, and I know the consequences of using a tun dish, but it wouldn't surprise me if, in frustration, some would resort to it.  It really is a habit that should be stamped out, but this man is pushing people too far.

i do not know if this practice happens in --------,  i do not know what a tun dish is. but if a customer gets a bad pint the management or staff smell taste the pint then pore it into a so called clean glass and top it up and pass it back to the customer some walk away with it others will not accept it i wonder what happens to that pint then .

I have worked for this brewery for a lot of years, and have always taken pride in the quality of the beer that i serve to my customers and even when Sams allowed us to filter back the only beer that went back was the legitamate returns to cask, I have also kept a record of all my stocks the only difference I now get  2% surplus, when we were allowed to filter back I got an extra half %. There are still a lot of decent managers out there, who under very trying circumstances are doing there best, and I am sure there are shady ones who will drain dregs into glasses, all I can say is why bother if thats the morals you have just give a short head and rob the customers. There is still a tendency to use this site to knock managers, why cant all you people who want to criticise someone, send a nice letter to the person who is responsible for this mess. im sure everyone has humphs address.

Hope -----------  gets their name blanked out of the previous post like mine did when I dared to comment on an unorthodox manager selling snacks for his own gain. Or as my post was titled. One rule for one pub ?

:o If this statement is in fact true and not just scaremongering. Trading standards/enviromental health should be given full details of these acts. Of course may i suggest that YOU never frequent these houses again. May i also ask, did you stay and sample the adulterated products? Cos i wouldn't :-\

it is def inately not scaremongering and does go on on a regular basis as ive seen it a couple of times since, that i have seen,i refuse to take any drinks that isnt from a clean empty to start with glass...i can understand the position the managers are in to get there surplus and the fault does lie with the brewery
