Where is the cheapest OBB?
« on: Apr 22 - 2010 »
Where is the cheapest OBB?  I've recently paid a staggering ?1.99 in London (most SS pubs) and ?1.94 in the Yorkshire Grey, London.

The Tivolo Bar in Morecambe didn't have OBB, neither did Sinclair's in Manchester (shameful).  However, the newly built and opened Brown Bear in Sheffield sold OBB for ?1.50 (I had to put up with the usual Sheffield derby riot) and I paid ?1.54 in my local SS which is Widow Cullen's Well in Lincoln.  WCW has gone from ?1.47 last year to ?1.50 in the New Year to ?1.54 after the 1st of April.

I'd guess that Tadcaster itself would be the cheapest place to buy OBB as there is only the smallest of distances to transport the beer.

Can anyone better ?1.50 (after the 1st April prices)?  Please name the pub and state the price, thank you!

Does anyone know how much OBB costs in Tadcasters itself?  Or is the a shroud of silence cast over the town from Taddy Towers?

Not bad, but I expected it to be cheaper there...it was that price at Widow Cullen's Well in Lincoln last year if my memory serves me correctly.

A friend and myself are trying to visit every SS in Yorkshire and some in Lincolnshire. So far the cheapest by 3p is all the 6 SS in Tadcaster.  OBB ?1-43.

We continue our quest tomorrow with a trip into West Yorkshire and Saturday into Lincolnshire.

I'm also in London for a week next month and will try to visit a few if not all SS pubs there.

Hi there Ian,

Hope your trip goes well.  I live in Lincoln and if you get to here on Saturday then let me know and we can meet up for a pint in Widow Cullen's Well (probably the nices SS pub in the county).  WCW sells OBB at ?1.54.

As for London, it is near impossible to visit all of the SS pubs there in a weekend, partly due to transport and time restraints, but also because of opening times (eg George and Vulture only opens during the week 11-3ish - not quite sure exactly).

However, if you are spending a week there and do your research before going then you might just do it.

Must see SS pubs in London:

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese
Cittie of Yorke
Fitzroy
The Champion
Ye Olde Swiss Cottage

Most London pubs charge ?1.99 for OBB cask.  Some are a little cheaper.

I've not been to the one in Richmond but would like to find out about it.

Cheers and bon voyage!

Another interesting pub in London is the Blackfriars (not an SS pub) but well worth a visit.  It's just on the north side of the Blackfriars bridge.

Pubs in Guisborough. Abbey sells OBB for ?1.43, Anchor a couple of pence more. Abbey is a good pub, typical Sam's. Good beer, nice atmosphere & no divvies/smackheads. Landlord is Graham, who will look after you well. Come and visit
