yes ian, it was open from around 6pm. i was there which is how i found out what had happened. but it wasn't busy, in fact it has been getting emptier on a tuesday quiz night since the ones who have just gone, took over.

the quiz chap said yesterday it had been the quietest quiz night in years, but hopefully it may start to build up again if the new managers are a little more popular then the last ones

RE the Ex managers. I am not a regular in Nellies, maybe 6 times this year and always in afternoons.  I have to say they did seem OK to me.

RE the Ex managers. I am not a regular in Nellies, maybe 6 times this year and always in afternoons.  I have to say they did seem OK to me.

personally, i got on ok with them. His wife was a lovely cheerful person. but things seemed to be going downhill, and lots stopped coming in, and were replaced by some less desirable individuals, some who had previously been barred, or were on the local pubwatch list. so nellies has been getting a bad rep as a harbour for those banned from the rest of the town

from what I can gather, any problems was possibly due to money, which is no real surprise. i think they found out early on that they simply didnt have enough staffing hours, although they had some free help from their sons and daughter

it became evident that they didnt want to encourage customers, as when the place was full, without enough staff they were not able to cope, in fact nobody would be. anna who had previously run the place for years said she was struggling, and that was brfore the hours were cut back by humphs even more

a friend of mine overheard the manageress voicing her concerns to her hubby about them having enough money to go on holiday!

in my opinion, if any of the rumours are true, then ultimately it is once again humphs fault for putting his managers in almost impossible situations. and i cant see things getting any better.

the general opinion from the regulars in nellies is: which poor sods do we have to witness their sufferings as they are put through the mill next? we all think humphs is very wicked and inhumane

i noticed that "wanted management couple" s in nellies front windows last night.

all i can say is, if anyone is considering taking the job who is reading this, make sure you have a realistic allocation of staff to cover when its busy, and for tidying up at the end of night on a weekend, otherwise you will be working all hours yourself, which will mean that you are working well below the minimum wage.

humps can legally only charge so much for your accommodation. its part of your employment package and not free. i know theres a calculator to work it out at this website.

its amazing how many newbies seem to think "oh it cant be that bad, we can cope" and then the next thing, they are the next victims.

i bet the only safe job to have around humphs, is as his locksmith, that guy must be working round the clock changing locks, or maybe theres a whole fleet of them  ::)

Perhaps they are just swapping the locks around the pubs and saving on paying for totally new locks!

delboy, is there a telephone number on the advert in the window, as you know of?

Anna now runs her own pub as a tenant in Lincoln...one of the best pubs in the city, not surprisingly!

on the ad, theres no phone number, just "apply within"

yes, anna has been a very good friend of mine for a number of years. she didnt want to leave nellies, but could see what was going on elsewhere with long-term managers getting the boot, and hours getting chopped back all the time. she was popular with many, and got a lot of free assistance when things were hectic, like glass collecting etc

new managers dont stand a chance at the moment. nellies has lots of rooms with open fires and gas lights as you know, and needs at least one person free to patrol the place, otherwise all kinds of things can go wrong

I noticed their website is back as it was before the recent management took over. It recently said something about it being off-line at the request of the management, despite it being on-line for about 10 years.
