As an example: Selby District Council who run Tadcaster (Not HRW Smith as he may think) say that the cost of a PPL for background music in a public house goes on "audible square meteres" the basic one 0 to 100 is ?130.03p up to 301 to 400 is ?520.10p then add ?110.60 for every band of 100 audible square metres after that as for any pub getting one you would have to be the name on the premises licence not a lowly unappreciated DPS hope this helps.
For those who understand, no explanation is needed.
For those who don't understand, no explanation is possible.

When it comes to ALL Sam Smiths pubs - it's a big misunderstanding by many, that music is banned because the brewery think the license fees are too much.

FACT: The family/brewery waste/lose more money per-annum, in bad business practice, and land/property asset waste - than the cost of very, many ent. licenses

FACT: It's not the money - it's because it's what they have decided! You don't need a PEL for a small bunch of the public, to sing 'happy birthday' to their mate - but ALL singing is banned, by the Smith brothers - full stop! Maybe they just don't like any music anymore!

Remember - customers have no intelligence, and don't know what's best - ONLY Humphrey Smith knows what's best for you - or so HE believes!  :P

If you're in a Sam Smith pub car park, and your car radio is audible on the premises - then the Manager has to ask you to turn it off - or clear off! (by order of Humphrey Smith)

BOTTOM LINE: Humphrey Smith does not want the public to have anything other than..

Their alcohol and beverages (limited own brand selection)
Their restricted menu (no more 'home made' - it's all from the freezer)

..and apparently, their low prices are supposed to be enough for them not to supply anything else.

Whilst the beer might be OK - the whole *package* is well below par. So what of the cheap beer? Well you pay peanuts - you get monkeys, and of course you only get what you pay for!

I have no info to suggest it is a Sam Smiths pub - unless anyone knows otherwise!?

Sinclairs is a Sam's pub.  It was known as Humphs baby by some people.  It seems that he has spoilt that too with his shite menu.  Having said that, the pub has a helluva turnover.  It is actually rather small in itself, but shares a large outside area with an ajacent pub.  It has been smoke free for about two years now, but still does well.  But it has to be said that the Oyster Bar is right in the centre of Manchester and attracts a lot of pin stripes.  At the prices that are charged thats not surprising, rather like his London pubs.  They are allways full too.

I know this is off thread, but that is a terrible shame that the Oyster Bar has been subject to the same menu as the rest of the Pubs. It use to have a really distictive fish based menu, it was really great. What a shame, and what a total mess they're making of great pubs, far and wide!
