Couple of options here.
First get a laptop with mobile broadband and visit.
Www.tvcatup.com register and then watch live freeveiw.
Second. On the iPhone in safari enter. iPhone.tvcatchup.com
register and the add as shortcut, to create a app icon, then watch live tv..
** [censored by admin] ** would then have to ban mobile phones and laptops to prevent customers watching the games..
go on try it now.

Better still.
Managers could put in free wifi for there customers and hire out laptops ( to cover the cost) so they could watch the footy.
Would love to see his face if he walked I to a pup full of people watching the world cup live on computers pluged into his pubs.. :D

Lovejoy.

I do think by posting "** [censored by admin] **" you have crossed over the line of decency.

I do believe we must keep up a moral standard on here, if we don't how can we expect people to take this forum seriously.

This is of course only my opinion and maybe I am out of step with other posters on this forum.  If that the case I cannot see me posting much on here.

I am sorry if you have been offended as trying to be as nice as possible about the man.
The main reason this site was started was purely becauce of his action, if he had been a good or ok employer then I might have addressed him differently.

Anyway the main reason for my reply was to tell all the footy fans missing the world cup due to mr smith's brilliant idea to remove the tv's, music and prevent customers singing (there was even a memo to advice that if we allowed music of any sort to be played in or outside the public houses it would be classed as gross misconduct)
I don't think i am alone in not like him or any of the spineless aera managers that never stood up to him or questioned some of his decisions, if they had perhaps they might still have a job along with several good managers.

If it's a samual smiths appreciation site your looking for your on the wrong site.

Lovejoy.

I'm well aware why this forum was started.  But that in no excuse for your gutter language.

Maybe best not to post after you've been out drinking.

And your idea of Mangers setting up free wi fi  is shear fantasy.

Still going to continue my rant...

5% surpless or difference charged to managers at full retail?
When asked how I could achieve this I was told to top up pints from drip trays?
New frozen food menu...
60% gp or difference charged back at full retail to the managers.
When I asked about people complaining and looking for refunds I was told that it would effect my overall gp% effectively meaning manager pays?
Music ban- customers singing happy birthday, to be told not to?
Even his own son can't seem to get along with this man!

As for gutter talk, far worse has been posted about FOB!
Now retired- still managed to sack 3 more management couples in his last week??

Now I am sure there is probibly no smoke without fire but, if you treat people like s#:? constantly humilating them infront of staff & customers then all respect goes.
I am sure if anyone was caught with there fingers in the till it was purly to take back what had been taken from them due to the above mentioned.

This site has lost all direction recently.
Were has the talk about press being involved, unions fighting for our rights.

I am an ex manager and have never worked for a more unpleasent and sneaky man in my life..

I would love to see humphry sat in front of Lord Sugar, or interviewed on watchdog for some of his gross breches in health and safety and the reason that he feels it fair to offer bellow minimum wage pay.
Latest I have heard is 12.5k for 50+ hours a week?

My objection to your post was the use of the word "chap"

Nothing wrong with a good rant.  I do it all the time. But I still think we have to keep to some kind of standards on here.

If the forum administer tells me I'm in the wrong, then I shall bow out gracefully. I do not what in be associated with a forum that condones that kind of language.

I await the Administers verdict.

With respect to all who post on this forum.

Moderation note: 'chap' now automatically replaces another rhyming word

I agree Ian, use of that sort of language, even though it may be from the heart, is not called for on here, unless quoting.  It's alleged that Mr H. R. Smith has caused a lot of people a lot of problems, but it should not result in that type of language and if it is true what Mr H. R. Smith has done then it is not right to lower one's self to that kind of level.  We must stay above it.

It's is understandable, that people get extremely angry and/or upset at the actions of Humphs or his agents - but it's also prudent to give the man little ammo for his solicitors to try and shut down this site.

Thank you those who tagged this, which has now been dealt with, so we can all move on. If Humphs or his agents now visit this thread, they will have to use their imagination to try and resolve the censored bits!  ;)

Incidentally, I might add that I have heard of at least three venues with open WiFi access - although not necessarily provided by their management - and possibly provided from nearby. So I suppose if someone was watching something on their iPhone, with ear buds in, then most would be non the wiser.

So what's next - Humphs banning all mobiles and camera's? It would be hard to police, and push things another step nearer him and his exploits getting the national publicity he tries to avoid.

Ultimately, if I was Humphs, I would have to ask myself, 'is it such a good idea to keep on upsetting people?' Surely life was more enjoyable when all of his employees and customers would (honestly) smile at him and show the respect he earned at that time - now quite a number of years ago.

Humphs - why not have a website (which you would have full control over) where you could promote your products, history, and other positives - and also dispel any incorrect roumors. You could also have a much more effective way to communicate with your staff - and even guage feeling through feedback? If you like. I could get my webmaster to talk with you further on the idea.

Silly me! There I go - off in the relms of fantasy again!  :D

Always in support of the Samuel Smiths Brewery - although very concerned about the current company strategy towards its staff and customers, as exercised by the Directors. We believe in promoting common sense, decency, compassion, fairness and compliance with company, employment and English law.

Sorry.

Back to the original matter.
The freeview works on the 3g network so iPhone, blackberry and mobile broadband (laptops)
as no music is played and anyone with a tv licience is permited to use mobile devices to recieve and watch tv.
There is nothing Humphry Smith could do about it.
I for sure will not be drinking or giving Mr Smith any more of my money.
Why not support your local that provides services for there customers, cheep beer is not everything....
As for now selling items in his pubs marked "fair trade"
the whole point of the fair trade mark is to to stop third world workers being exploited!!!
What about Sam smith staff & managers, who is looking out for them?

Message to Iain.

Sorry if I offended you in anyway.
I was starting to think you worked at taddy tower along with DB
with threads like "out yourselves" it would be a great way to trick members into identifying themselves?

Hi there lovejoy,

Thank you for being big enough to apologise.  The points you've made in your last post are totally valid.  I general do support my "local" (The Jolly Brewer, Lincoln) as well as the pub I work in for a local chain...I certainly don't work for SS!  Look at my 200+ postings and you will see that I am certainly not an SS spy!  I will advocate the positives, and fight against the negatives, which is why I post of this forum.

I generally only go in London SS pubs because they are cheap (?1.99 and are some of the best pubs not just in London but the entire UK).  I sometimes go to Widow Cullen's Well in Lincoln, usually on a Sunday.

The Fair Trade association is a bit hypercritical in my opinion...has anyone every complained to the Fair Trade organisation?  Just an idea!

Lovejoy.

All water under the bridge.

I'm a newly retired building worker and with a good friend who also drinks SS's we are using our free bus passes to visit as many pubs as we can.

Talking to people on our travels it is obvious that this forum is read by a lot of people and I do believe that we should all use this forum in a polite way.

The only other forum I use, bad swearing is banned, so it came as a bit of a shock to read your post.  But all sorted, so lets carry on as normal.
