300th Samuel Smith pub identified
« on: Jun 4 - 2010 »
Hi there all,

I have just identified, listed, posted and uploaded the 300th Samuel Smith pub to the map and the forum.

Thank you,

DB.

PS I am trying to write "Samuel Smith" instead of SS, so that people searching can find Samuel Smith easier.

The list is now at 305 Samuel Smith's Old Brewery pubs!  I know of no other list that comes even close to this one!

Thanks to everyone who contributed newly found pubs...it wouldn't be so good without you!

And thank you to Ian, for checking that they are all there!

DarkieBoy.

Have you put them on the map?  Also if possible could you flag them up in a different  colour so they stand out on the map please.

All being well visiting about 15 more on Saturday with a bit of luck. :P

This is managed houses (both owned and leased), clubs that were formerly funded by Samuel Smith's Old Brewery, but are now managed.

The map of them is here: http://www.jamesgretton.co.uk/samuelsmiths/

It is a lot for one Humprey to area manage!

Ian, all 305 are now on the map.  Not sure how to do different colours!

Good luck with 15 pubs on Saturday...will it be pints, or just halves?

It's always halves.  We have  1 hour on train then 2 buses for over 1 hour each.  So it will take the 3 of us well over 3 hours each way.  At a cost of ?6-30 each.

We could go for nothing but it would mean walking 3 miles to catch the 6-30am bus to Leeds. So we are catching the 7-30ish train.   ;D.

We are thinking of starting a Sam Smiths bus pass club.  Next time we go out there will be 4 of us.

I've started to take photo's of the pubs to prove we have been there.  I'm even going back to the one's we went to before we started taking photo's. But not to call in as some of the one's I revisit are not open.

This weekend will see us hit the 100 mark or somewhere very close to it.

beerman1, the pubs are found by a number of ways...this forum was a big help, also the website http://www.beerintheevening.com and other internet sources.

Personal experience and local knowledge of this forum's members is invaluable (bigjim, etc).

I doubt that many more will come out of the woodwork though.  However, there are suggestions that there are perhaps 380 or so Samuel Smith's Old Brewery pubs in the country...so 75 missing from my list.

I was told today by someone who worked for Sam Smiths 10 years ago that he knows for a fact that there was 465 SS pubs 10 years ago.
