I would like to ask mr smith if in his Dickensian attitude to his work force and customers is in any way linked to the mind altering drugs he must be taking, if not, hopefully his jacob marley attitude, will come to haunt him, remember the chain we form in life.........

I'm surprised your pub has lost its Alpine Lager, as I thought that was the most popular lager.

And I must concur with your 'Mild' comment, gulper. Not a drink I would usually consume, but the Samuel Smiths Mild is very nice indeed :-)

So there we have it. What more proof do we need that Humph is trying to ruin a once great business.
He's tried getting rid of most of his best Managers
He's reduced staff and hours to a minimum
He's rid pubs of atmosphere with no music or T.V
and still the business won't lie down
What could he possibly do next?
Ofcourse, take out the companies best selling product
Samuel Smiths R.I.P

I thought it was odd about 12 months ago when suddenly they upped the ABV of the Taddy, rumour had it (as usual cos the brewery tell you f--k all) that there was an issue regarding the licence for the name "Alpine" and the ownership thereof. (or something along those lines).
And that eventually the Alpine would be phased out, however most of our customers who normally drank Alpine also tried the new improved Taddy...almost all of them hated it...too sweet.
If they do decide to remove the Alpine completely then I agree with Alpine Drinker, it will be the final nail in the coffin.
This is extremely serious, if he thinks he can do this and see no effect he is in for a very rude awakening, it is suicidal.
I myself drink the wonderful Sovereign but have drank the lager in the past, Ayingerbrau or Alpine as its known these days is legendary across the country.
The lunatics have definitely taken over the asylum this time.

Yes Maddog i to heard the rumour about the license.
The way I heard it though was that Ayinger was brewed under license and
was up for re negotiation and he would not pay the increase so
He made his own version and called it Alpine which I believe was the name used
some 20 years ago (older drinkers please varify) ;)
If this is the case it really doesn't make sense.
But then anything that this scruffy megalomaniac does, rarely does.

As the "legend" goes Mr. Ayinger is the gentleman portrayed on the pump head...the guy in Tyrolean type dress.
It was Mr Ayinger's brew or "brau" hence the name Ayingerbrau.
The name change happened quite a lot of years ago I think...cant remember when though.

So the rumour regarding the name and ownership does seem to be true, but if Sams "copied" it and changed the name to Alpine Lager I cant see where the problem with licence or maybe a trademark issue would be.
As usual with Sams everything seems to be clouded in secrecy so you immediately suspect foul play...its their own bloody fault for breeding this air of underhandedness...lol is there such a word as underhandedness or have I just invented it.
Anyway I do know that I freqent quite a few Sams pubs and there will be an almighty uproar if the try to force everyone to drink Taddy.

I suppose as is usual we will just have to see what unfolds cos you can bet your life if you ring the brewery and ask, you wont get a straight answer.
