I believe there were some managers training last week, not to sure about this week. Locations must be all over the empire, as i met more reliefs over the last month than for a long time.

Drove past the Buckles today and noticed a large number of cars in the carpark, counted about 10. So there must be about 20 people and 10 management couples starting next week for Sams. Hearda  rumour that one is going to the Agar Arms and one to Harewood Arms Hotel,Harewood.

32 managers... that's phisically impossible even in the Buckles Inn. All training is now done at the Buckles because Hump says the training has to be done in a "working pub". There has never been more than 20 at one time, I know that as a fact. I have seen so many trainee managers at the Buckles, all wide eyed and keen to get started, not knowing the disillusionment to come later. We all start with high hopes and no knowledge about Humphrey's antics.  Often there are a lot of cars outside but this doesn't mean that they are trainees. Sometimes there are functions on at the same time in other rooms. As for the couple that got sacked at the end of the training week, there was a very good reason for it.  The couple in question were from "The Tankard" in Rufforth and they were the most obnoxious, ignorant, loud mouthed, big headed, arrogant, know it all pair of lazy B******s I've met.  They were NOT working 14 hours a day, they were sat at a desk and it took her all her time to get of her fat a**e to get a coffee.  They went back to the Tankard one evening after training and told the customers that they were closing at 10pm because they were going to bed as they were tired after a long day in training. (that's the reason they were sacked) If they hadn't had burger and chips every day and done a bit of walking about to get some excersise they might have been a bit less tired.  The idea was to try different Sams dishes to form an overall opinion, NOT to eat burgers every day.  They were disliked intensely in the Tankard because of their attitude and most were glad to see the back of them (and SHE had a lot of "BACK") One customer commented that she "still had the stool she sat on behind the bar, stuck to her a**e" as she left.  All I'm sayin here is that some managers deserve sacking while others that are well liked suffer the same fate for no wrong doing.  Whatever.... people will still apply to sam smith's for pubs and it will continue for the forseeable future.  Humphrey is an idiot an imbecille, a fool, a moron, stubborn, selfish spoiled brat, a bully, a big kid, he has not one ounce of christian charity to his managers or staff although he has the audacity to go to church on sundays and profess to be a christian. The man is a hipocrite of the highest order.  I sincerely wish that there was some way of warning prospective managers NOT to take a management position with Sam Smiths.  Spread the word and get this slaughter to end. Perhaps if no one applies anymore Hump will have to reconsider his approach to his business... but it probably wouldn't. The man has no concept of what his managers go through. We are all just pawns to him and his big game of Monopoly.  His people and customer skills are none existant. He has the attitude that people will have what he provides wether they like it or not and take away the things that they do like just to impose his will. He is a control freak of the first magnitude. Anyway... we all live and learn... with the exception on Hump Smith.    Adieu!!!

I understand that there are roughly 7 couples on the training course this week. How long will this latest batch survive Humphrey's special test. One manager is the new one at the Jolly Sailor Whitby, Shoulder of Mutton at Appleton Roebuck, another is going Manchester way apparently. Another to the Rochdale area and one up north i believe. May be able to confirm later in the week.

One of the couples is the new one at the Buckles itself. Staff are going to be running the pub while the new managers are being trained. God help the lot of them, although the new Buckles managers have gone in with their eyes wide open. I made sure of it. They know they are probably short term like the rest of them.  ::)

Sorry i had forgotten about the Buckles managers as well. I am glad to hear that they come to SS with their eyes wide open and all the facts before them. Seen so many managers fall before the 11 month mark.

It seems to be an every increasing conveyor belt of managers through the training department at SS. I must say that i feel sorry for the training manager and his team, who have the thankless task of training managers after managers and no stability. Surely he must be getting fed up by now

i'm surprised humph hasn't taken on the job himself? ah but he doesn't have any experience himself  :P

i wonder if in a few years time, you would be more likely to meet an ex sams manager, than you would someone who had worked for mc donalds  ;D

Sorry but i thought he had another member of the team at previous training course in the past. I know, why doesn't Humphrey do the job himself and then nobody to blame when it falls apart 11 months later.

Yes i believe that Laurie also does the stock taking to. Another job that Humphrey could do to save some more money.

I believe that the lastest batch of new managers (victims) have been on the course last week. Believe they are going to the Brown Hare in Harehills and possibly Red Lion Leeds (could have been working whilst waiting for the course), Manchester there were two and some for the Rochdale area. Rochdale seems to have a rather high level of turnover of staff. I know it's not the best area, but still; surely Humphrey can keep some stability in that area. One also was going to the Lyceum in London. There were 25 people so may be 12 couples and one single manager.

Now the training course is only 4 days long, how can it give a good knowledge of pub management and customer care. Plus the cellar management and line cleaning. Been in some recently and been shocked by the quality of managers that are now running some of the pubs.
