I would not describe Humphrey Smith as scruffy either.  I think the impression comes from his style of dress, which is more countryfied, than city-chic!

Last time I saw him his trousers were creased as hell. His hair needs attention too.

I have seen him several times and his appearance has been some what different. From a worn suit and shirt, and a grease knot tie. To wearing a country sort of outfit with wellies.

Also many managers have no knowledge of this website if you ask them, others are scared to look at it out of fear of reprisal by Humphrey.

You are joking!!! he has visited the pub i drink in and his trousers have had the crotch darned and sewn up, his shirt was thread bear, jacket absolutely falling to bits and stinking, unless that was him, and holes in his shoes, i think that being countrified is an insult to those from the country. I have seen better dressed people on the streets asleep in the under ground.

My post was based on just one experience of me meeting him.  That's what he resembled, to me.

I've met and spoken to Hump on a number of occasions over the last few years and he's always looked like a scruff. I can however remember him looking extremely smart many years ago when I first started in the trade so I can only assume he's lost the plot on all fronts over the last few years.

He turned up in my local recently. He suggested to the manager, who has worked for the brewery for a number of years, that if takings dont increase then he might as well start looking for another job. No help or additional funding to help improve the situation, just a cold threat. Great man management skills (he must have been on the advanced course)

Makes you wonder what changes Oliver would make. Does he have pleasant memories of when Sam Smiths was an icon of British brewing and can't wait to get back to the good old days, or....

It does make you wonder what changes he would make to the company, his hands have been tied for many years. Maybe he won't know where to start, with trying to pull this company out of the massive hole, Humphrey has dug it into. The same can be said of Humphrey's son, when he takes over and wants to make changes to put it back, to being a good british company, with good products.

It would obviously cost many millions to change it but as customers we would appreciate the uphivel to have the good times again.

Woah OB!

Who has questioned the products (meals excluded)? Fab beers, great range and even the nuts and crisps are brill. I don't drink shorts but am aware of concerns there. Overall though: value, quality, no rap boom boom backgroud crap and a nice place to meet and converse.

Granted Hump has to go but I hope not everything changes.

I have spoken to oliver a few times over the years, its my view he would change nothing, when you ask him a question all he ever replies is see my brother. Its the younger generation who will make the changes if they ever get a chance.
