That seems to be the policy at the Duncan in Leeds. You get your pint served and then pay and the barperson moves onto the next person, and leaves the 1 inch head on the beer.I waited quite a while before i could get my pint topped up.

If you want a top in your lager then you have to pay 25p in some Sams pubs now and a spirit and a dash has extended to several dashes now.

Its been said before by some one else and that is line glasses, I can't see why the government can't put it's act together and make it law as people are being cheated and when you consider the price of beer nowodays it make's even more sense.

I went into the Red Lion, Leeds Yesterday on my way home to Hull. I also had a good pint and the head was just about right too.

I av received same memo. None of my customers will pay 85p with their spirits. I will advice them to buy 1/2 post mix and top up  their spirits. We have had cellar services to sort out lager and had a regulator put on it cos the kegs are over pressurised and thus fobbing up. 5% no chance!

The memo states that we should charge our customers ?2.45 for a vodka and coke. Vodka is ?1.60 in our pub, so work it out. 85p for the unit of coke. Apparently a unit of post mix is 85p.  Can u imagine if u av lager with a top.

Shemon, the way we read the memo is that the 2.45 is just an example and the unit of post mix being a half pint, not a dash.  Most people in our pub drink a short and, say, cola with the cola being near to the top of the glass, thus the 85p. The lager with the top would be 1 pint plus a dash(25p or whatever the price is in yours).

Thanks for explaining that. When my customers have a spirit they just have a dash with it. If they have more than that I charge them for 2 dashes. Thought it applied across the board in all his pubs.  Thanks again.

We used to charge them for 2 dashes the same as you, but with this idiotic 5% thing that humph is paranoid about we have started to charge them for a post mix.  But then it depends really on how much you give them I suppose. In some cases I should think charging 2 dashes would be enough.

have also recieved the same memo about the 5% surplus, this is so annoying and confusing, lets try and simplify the matter, if I have a barrel holding 36 gallon of Lager, which i sell at ?1.75 per pint and there are 288 pints in a barrel, and If can empty the barrel (without any spillage until it is bone dry) then I should have rung into my till ?504.00.
However Mr Smith says that i should have rung in another ?25.20
I must admit I am not great at maths but this does not add,
So i am left with two options (to give the Merchant of Tadcaster his PINT of flesh)
water down the beer or rob the customer
Then just to rub our faces in it, he holds up Sinclairs as the shining light in this affair and delivers 5% surplus every stock, how does he do, by giving the customer short measures.
well I have it on very good authority that dear Sinclairs will have a lot to answer to in the future, as substantial complaints have been made to weights and measures by disgruntled customers, and at last something will be done about short changing the public.

without giving to much away i have worked at Sams for a lot of years and even when we used to have legitamate returns to barrels I never made 5%surplus. So I will go on working with integrity and hope that someone will one day bring mr Smith to justice

The 5% surplus thing is almost un-workable, one of the managers told me the other day that they had to use creative practises in order to avoid a deficit. It would very interesting to see the outcome of any action taken by Weights and Measures against Sinclairs.
