well i  do seem to have caused a lot of problems with my origianl post, of which i did not put on due to not knowing about this forum, i sent a letter to a lady who i believed could help, she advised and offered to put my letter on her, stating this was the correct avenue to persue.
my intention was never to get anyone in trouble, however i do feel things have slipped in there over the past few months, quite understandable with a new manager, however, i know many customers have asked for the upstairs to be opened and it remains shut, i simply wanted to have my point put across.
i am however far more upset about the way in which i was treated by the landlord when i went in there, and sadly feel unable to drink in there anymore, which is a great shame as it has been a favorite of mine for over 20 years.

Did anyone see see the fight that happened last night (27th Dec)?
What was all that about?
It seemed to me that the Landlord attacked what seemed to be an innocent guy (punching him big style in the ribs) who was holding his hands up saying "ok, im going, just dont push me!"
Then the Landlady pushed another lady to the floor shouting "get off the premises!" Was just wondering if anyone else was in and saw what happened and what was your take on the excitement???

What was all that about?

I saw how it started. The was two young lads moaning at the landlady about having to drink up 20 minutes after time, when all of a sudden, the guy you refer to, suddenly started poking his nose in. I think he already had it in for the landlady/landlord because of something to do with him wanting to leave his car in the carpark over night on a previous occasion - but I'm not too certain of the details.

Anyway, the guy in question then not only refused to leave the pub when the landlady insisted, but then started taunting the landlady. He was then joined by a taunting female (his girlfriend?). Both refused to leave, and when they were told they were barred - they got even worse. The lad was definitely asking for it - and if he behaved like that in some of the other pubs with door men - he would have found himself in real trouble - and barred from all of the town centre pubs.

Anyway, the landlord had had enough of the couple not leaving (who also seemed to have their own crowd with them). So he tried to push the lad out of the door. It was then that a scuffle ensued. I saw the lad punch at the landlord, and the female punch at the landlady. They were still both being very abusive and winding the landlord/landlady right up. I would say they were trying very hard to provoke a reaction - with personal abuse.

I can understand that the landlord/landlady are at their whits end, as a few days ago, it kicked-off in the pool room, and both were injured.  Humphs is putting his managers and staff in very dangerous situations. It could even be worse on New Years Eve. Humphs could find himself getting done by the Health & Safety executive.

Anyway, I heard that the couple in the scuffle (who in my view provoked the situation - and continued to provoke) contacted the Police, who the went to the pub later on. Certainly that lad should be put on Beverley pub watch - he seems like a real trouble maker. Problem is, if he tries getting back in the pub - he could do so unnoticed, as there's insufficiency staff to safely manage the pub. Why is Humphs doing this?

I've just come off the phone, with some friends who allegedly saw it last night - and they all agreed that the lad and lass were trouble makers, trying to provoke violence, and were both throwing punches at the landlord and landlady. So hopefully, they will get nicked and barred from Nellies.

I hope the brewery appreciate what their managers are being exposed to, and offer them their full support if nothing else.

One of my friends who saw the incident - claims that if the lad had behaved like that with the Police, he would have been arrested for his behaviour - and locked up!

I personally rarely go in any Sam's pub any more. I'd rather pay more for my drinks, knowing that I don't have to wait too long to get served, and that the staff serving me are being paid a fair and legal wage. It also seems like it's not going to be too safe to drink in a Sam's pub any more!!!
These are sad times :(

Are you sure you did 'Charlie'? Or would you by any chance be the perpetrator in question?  ;) I noticed from your profile, that you've just joined today, and made the one post!  ;)

A very good point and that is why I don't believe a lot of first time posters who just want to stare up trouble for the managers.
