Tis the season to be jolly - you wouldn't have noticed the other night. Bumbling old Scrooge like character blundering around Norden in Rochdale in his battered up 51 plate Santa buggy.

Hump - love your beer but boy do I think you are odd!

Is it correct the hump has told managers not to bring in bar staff on xmas day because he does not want to pay double time, and managers are having to work on their own.

I think that is what the memo said but i think alot of managers have put staff on anyway as they know it is going to be busy on Chrsitmas Day and Boxing Day.

Thats my point, managers are putting staff on but the hump is not paying them,I was in a sams house that i have only been in once before the other night when i was asked if i would like to buy a xmas draw ticket,to be drawn lunch time xmas day,as i did not know when i would be in again i said no thanks, one of the locals standing next to me commented that they are having to run these draws to pay the staff on xmas day as hump has refused to pay them.If this is the case as much as i like sams beers i  refuse to pay staff wages thats humphreys job,he must be loving this we are buying his ale and also paying his staff, he cannot lose.

The memo says that it is expected that licensed premises will not increase their staff hours over the Xmas and New Year period. No staff to be employed on Xmas day and boxing day staff hours to be kept to a mimimum ( double time ).  On New Years Eve we keep open until 12.00 a.m. sing Auld Lang Syne and then close.  No drinking up time after midnight.

Managers are therefore working an extra hour without pay so we can sing Auld Land Syne. Can you imagine customers leaving straight after cos I can't.

OK shemon you have seen the memo i have not, but what you say about xmas day no staff to be brought in managers to do it all themselves, so some managers are taking other routes and paying staff cash in hand themselves by running xmas draws to raise funds.

You know people, we need to be very careful what is written on here.  The fact that managers are paying staff cash in hand is understandable.  But you have to realise that it is illegal to do so and I think that you may find that Humph will not be pleased that this is happening.  A short while ago he released a memo saying exactly this.  Please be very careful because he will now be informed by his blue eyed ones, who read these posts, that this is going on.  If he visits you you must not let him see that you are doing this.

Shemon, use your loaf.  Are you seriously thinking that your customers will put up with this.  Let them know long before what his highness has said and you will probably find that they will tell you what to do with NYE.  You will probably not need to stay open.

Festive Insanity - Re: Scrooge

It looks as if Humphs is trying his best to get sectioned. He is putting a lot of managers, and possibly customers in very dangerous situations.

To chuck out everyone at bang on 12 midnight, new years eve when 1) everyone has had a skin full, 2) most will not be expecting to be oiked out at the witching hour, and 3) when being told they must leave by order of the brewery - most will just think it's the managers being awkward.

Result; well it could get nasty!  :(

Not having extra hours or whatever to staff bust bars could also lead to all kinds of problems.

For Gods sake, can't someone get that man a nice and comfy padded room - where he can't do all this harm to so many people and families over the festive season? He must be breaking some laws again?

Scrooge? No way, Humphs make Scrooge look like an angel, even when Scrooge was at his worst.

Lads and Lasses, settle down now. 2 years ago Mr. Humpty informed me that I must shut the pub at 2300 hrs on New Years Eve. Without further ado I put notices up in the pub to this effect, the result was as follows:
At 2245 hrs I had 15 people in the pub because everyone else had made arrangements to spend New Year elsewhere. By 2330 we had washed up, shut up, and were upstairs watching TV. this was a nice own goal by boy wonder.
On the Christmas Day as only myself and the missus were working, we did a good trade and got a pasting for two and a half hours (1200-1430) we then washed up, last customer out about 1515, got the pub ready for Boxing Day opening, then went upstairs for the rest of the day.
You people are quite right, you will not get people out at midnight. What you will get is people taking bloody ages to sup up and clear off. The result in pestering people to do just that can only result in fallouts or assault. The best bet is last orders at 2300 giving an hour to down the drinks. If you take this avenue, then advertise your last orders time and give a good shout around the pub about 2250hrs.
I think that you will find that most will sup up and clear off to the nearest boozer for further drinks thus making life easier for yourselves to get glasses in and washed. To customers reading this who may think that this is a little selfish, please be aware that this is purely to avoid confrontation with well lubricated customers at midnight.
Smiffy himself has put his staff on the frontline pending abuse.

Must be true, as it won a mention with the Daily Mirror's Christmas Scrooge of 2010 feature in thursday copy. :-*
