This is the part about Sams from Thursdays mirror:

A publican working for Samuel Smith of Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, tells us of a memo that "loyal and hard working" pub managers have just received.

They've been told to open for three hours for Christmas Day lunch without taking on extra members of staff to cope.

"So we've got to clean, serve, re-stock, clear up and take the rest of the day off, whatever is left," the publican says. When we put this to the brewery in ?question, we were informed:
"Just say a spokesman declined to comment."

I dont know if this is standard practise or not, because the bus's wern't running we couldn't go to the York Arms so we went to a Thwaites pub three mins. walk away, there was just the landlord and lady serving, we went in at 12 and stayed till 2.30 and they were still going.

Being new to this forum I am quite amazed at the amount of discontent among customers. I can understand if a manager has a grouse but thats his business but to knock a  brewery selling good beer at very good prices seems to be like trying to  kill the golden goose.
