appalled at bispham hotel blackpool
« on: Feb 16 - 2011 »
There was a 'Mr and Mrs' quiz at the Bispham Hotel pub, Blackpool on Sunday run by resident Sunday afternoon quiz master.  His first question was (and I hope you'll excuse me writing this)...."What sex aid does your wife prefer?  1. a strap-on 2. hancuffs and chains 3. a dildo/vibrator or 4. all of the above.  Another question was - Where did they 1st have sex....1. was it....etc.

We were appalled.  6.30pm and with children in the pub.  Landlord and landlady drinking this side of bar took no notice and didn't notice people 1. not laughing, 2. leaving.

THis was absolute crass. I know there was a notice up saying if you are easily offended please don't enter.  We're not easily offended but this was pure trash.  Surely management should have vetted the questions?

I have to say that I'm in 2 minds about this one.

If the Bispham is the type of pub that allows children in and if the show was on in the room that the children use, then yes totally wrong.

If the Bispham has 2 or more rooms that children can/do use then seeing there was a notice up then it is the parents fault. They should not have been in the room in the first place.

I'm of a age that I like to go into a bar without children running around the place. And lets be honest there is plenty of children friendly pubs now without taking them into one that isn't.

We had the licensing officer in our place and he told us children were not allowed in the pub cos the license doesnt permit them. As far as I am aware this applies to most of Sam Smiths licenses. If you're allowing children in, read your license on the wall first, you might be surprised by it.

There is only one room where the 'show' was and where the children were.

There is a hand written notice on the front door saying children are not allowed (which is the reason a lot of us like this pub) but children, babies, newborns have been allowed in which is annoying.

In all fairness the landlord and landlady were socialising so probably didn't even notice children were there.

If managers are going to have an adult style quiz then it needs to be at the appropriate time and no children. I am not sure of the Sam Smiths policy on children as i have seen several notices saying children welcome until 8 or 9pm, others no children in the tap room. Others have a children policy at all, so is it due to the license that the pub has?

As a regular customer in the Bispham Hotel i would like to say that NO CHILDREN are allowed on the premises also that NO CHILDREN were on the premises. Also the Mr and Mrs night in question was a good night 99% of the people on the premises enjoyed themselves.
P.S. Geronimo come out from under your username and tell us who you are??

As a customer last Sunday afternoon and one who had friends who participated in the Mr & Mrs 'fun' competition. I felt I had to reply to Geronimo.
1. Re the questions asked ie. the question what sex aid does she use was actually does she own one (semantics yes though accurate)
2. No children were in the hotel at the time of the game or at anytime in the afternoon (other than i admit a 2 month old proudly paraded to a relative for 2 mins around 4pm)
3. I did not see anyone leaving other than those who would normally leave following the regular sunday afternoon games and quiz
Finally if Geronimo had a issue with either the quiz master and or the landlord / landlady (which they appear to have) with regard to what went on re Sunday afternoon the surely the ideal solution would have een to speak / complain to either /or (unless they had another agenda???????)

If you are the creator of a 'topic' you can remove it under certain circumstances - which may need admin approval. Locking a topic, stops anyone else from posting in that topic
If it's not broken - it's been fixed!

re-geronimo, this was not a quiz, but a valentines day mr & mrs contest for adults in a adults enviroment . first may i send my sincere apologies  first to smiths brewerey if i have done anything wrong which is against their high standards of all the sam smith pubs. as i never intended to cause offence to any one. and please note that i would like to put on record that the landlord/landlady of the bispham were in no way shape or form to be held responsible for the questions which i read out. but just to clarify a few points the questions i asked were miss quoted by geronimo as other posts have said,( by persons who were in the building). also out of 48 questions asked he/she as picked up on 2 of the 3 inuendo questions i asked, what about the other 40 odd which were i.e,  is your partner wearing a watch? what colour is partners eyes. what colour shoes is partner wearing i could go on and on. and the list of questions used are available for geronimo to read if they so wish, also as a father and grandfather of young children myself. and i also spend many hours of my time doing charity fundraising events for local childrens hospice,. so under no circumstance would i have done an adults mr & mrs quiz with any children in the room which i am sure the bispham hotel cctv can back me up on   this,  as  the managment do not allow children in premises. if i have offended one person then that is one person too many and i hope geronimo will accept my appologies and if he/she had brought this to my attention i would have apologised personally as i only ment it to be a bit of light hearted /fun valentines entertainment. hope this clears up a few points and maybe all concerned will accept my sincere apologies once again and they can rest assured i will never be doing anything like this again because some people do not know the word FUN yours steve

Eclipse - thank you for your apology.  It will be passed on to the several customers who found these particular questions unfunny and on whose behalf this was written.

Shoot the messenger springs to mind.

Shoot the messenger springs to mind.

This all affair seems to be a storm in a pint pot to me.

There was no children, apart for a baby for a brief time.

There was a notice on the door saying no children allowed in the pub.

There was a notice as you enter the room saying, Quoting geronimo,s own words. "If you are Easily offended please don't enter"

"Landlord and Landlady drinking this side of the bar took no notice" This I think is a  red herring.

Last but not least.

"Shoot the messenger springs to mind"

Nowhere in geronimo's post dose s/he say they are posting on anybody else's behalf. So I'm baffled by this comment.

On a personal note.

Why don't first time posters think about the damage there can do by posting these kind of posts on here.

I repeat,  A storm in a pint pot.
