Hi Ian, nice to have met you, and of course talking to John about my navigational skills, the funny thing is that lack of navvy is the only thing that I am rembered for as a runner, but then I was never serious about it but had some good times and companions, so I may see you again in York. I dont do just the Arms I call in at Brown Cow and Hansom Cab on occasions and my wife and myself do a bit of pub bagging also.

"bagging" to me is to visit as many different Sam Smith's pubs as you can. I think I've been to 181 all told. 180 last year and 1 this year. It does get harder the more you visit.

Pub bagging as I refer to it is having a pint in any pub in York, but since discovering Sams we've tended to get bogged down. We've also found a book Called the Snickleways of York, it's a walk of about three miles in and out of obscure allyways,  and so as not to do it too fast we stop as soon as we come to a pub, sometimes the days walk only lasts five minutes.

dear sir,i go my local pub called albion inn in wakefield since last year and i love the taddy lager.i quietly have a couple of them and go home.the attitude from the two female staffs are terrible.as i am an asian it seems they find it very difficult to accomodate me.i am a responsible drinker,a husband and a father who takes everything reasonable.yesterday 28/01/11 by evening i went there and had a drink bought another two for later and drove home.the female (manager i believe) reported me to the police and they breath analysed me.they found only 9 reading on the analyser and i was free to go home.i was only a quarter of the limit.because of their attitude a month ago i asked them ,whether i am welcome to the pub or not and the man was positive about it.i now understand they smile and are hating me inside because i am an asian and they have a racist approach towards me.if you had another pub ,i would defenetly go there bcas i love taddies .i hope you may read this and take necessary action against rascist approach.        thankyou, kishore.

kishore, with great respect to you mate, your letter on here should have been posted in the post office mail for the attention of Mr. Humphrey Smith, and sent to the brewery, and not on this site.
We only presume that he looks at this site, and therefore posting on here may not get his attention.
I personally would be most annoyed by any manager/manageress who did not welcome a customer of any colour or creed who was able to pay for his/her drinks and be a responsible drinker.
If things don't improve and you are absolutely sure that you are being edged out of the pub due to your colour or beliefs, and its not just your "gut feeling", then contact the brewery. I sincerely hope that you are wrong about this and that the management couple make you welcome in future.

I echo the views of Ant and Blueboy - write directly to the brewery. Good luck!

Dear Sir
I understand you have sacked the Landlord / Landlady at the Tankard Rufforth, please can you reconsider your actions as they were a superb couple and really tried to improve the pub, and they were just getting the menue put together for food.
I know they were at fault in there actions but hope you could reconsider and give them another chance
Regards

Please note that this site has no association with Samuel Smith's Brewery (Tadcaster).  This website is primarily a forum used for open discussion regarding matters relating to Samuel Smith's Brewery staff, management, customers, venues and other associated topics.  It was created in 2007, in the absence of then, of an official Samuel Smith's Brewery website.  The official Brewery website is: http://www.samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/

Please address ALL Brewery-related correspondents to the postal address below.

However, I do see some value in posting in this topic copies of letters sent to the Brewery, and any replies received in response.

Thank you,

DB.

I have found out what happened at the Tankard on Burns night.  How anybody thinks there could get away with pulling a stroke like that is beyond belief.
