Always in support of the Samuel Smiths Brewery - although very concerned about the current company strategy towards its staff and customers, as exercised by the Directors. We believe in promoting common sense, decency, compassion, fairness and compliance with company, employment and English law.

It looks as though the building belongs in Taddy! Shame about the modern thing at the side and behind.

It does!  The thing behind is a shopping centre.  I'll be in this pub in a couple of weeks time...celebrating my birthday.  I also intend to visit the other Peterborough Samuel Smith's pub - The Botolph Arms, which looks brilliant on the photos that I've seen.

Called into the pub in August on my way to the PBF had a drink of OBB (80p half) & spoke to the gaffer (previously worked as a security guard who looked after the site in the absence of a licensee) Told me it was his first time in the industry & that he was hired by Hump after the previous incumbent had done a runner.
Both he & his wife were very happy with Hump & the way he conducted himself!! He was aware of Hump's reputation but seemed to have no problems with him!
NB. Pub does not sell Wheat beer

Many managers when they are interviewed and first meet Humphrey they say how nice and lovely he is. Later on when they are not doing as well as expected the axe tends to fall. I would hope that anyone applying for a job with the company should first google and find this website and see for themselves. Before they enter into a contract with the company.

Is that not a little bit biased OBD? Our new managers speak highly of him.
There is the saying: "before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes"
Until recently I was a manager with a national company. I think if you were to speak to some of my ex staff there would be some who don't have a good word to say about me. I would think that these would be the people who liked to do very little when at work. I would hope that there would be some people who thought I was ok as a manager. I dunno but, I just think that people should judge folk as they find them, that's all.  ;D

Given the company's appalling record of taking on clearly unsuitable managers, providing poor training to people who are new to the industry, regularly breaking employment law by sacking managers at a whim, with no opportunity for ongoing training or development, and the ridiculous conditions managers are expected to work under, I don't think OBD's comment was at all biased. If anything it was an understatement. :)

This is a cracking town centre boozer with friendly and highly accommodating manager and welcoming customers.  I highly recommend a visit.

This is the side of the pub as seen when approaching from the railway station via The Oakham Brewery Tap.

The pub had a number of "rooms" and alcoves with a spectrum of customers from all walks of life.  It felt like a proper boozer of old.

Looks like a lovely old pub with plenty of heritage. It's good when pubs have a variety of different customers
