bad beer
« on: Apr 20 - 2011 »
Has anybody else noticed  the fluctuation in the standard of Sovereign or is it just  my palette?
it seems to vary from week to week and at the moment has a very nasty after taste! Could it be the lines need cleaning or are there  bad batches of beer coming out of Taddy?

Quite often the lines are blamed for bad beer.  There are a multitude of other factors that could cause "bad beer" including bad batch, unclean glasses, previously eaten food, etc, etc.

I do have Sovereign in no-cask Samuel Smith's pubs, but as a mix, so not noticed.

However, as a keg beer, it should not fluctuate from a manufacturing point of view.

Another factor, which has affected our Sam's beer in the past, has been from the glass washer - either not cleaned properly, or not the correct amount of salt used. There's nothing worse than getting your beer served in a smelly glass!  :-[
These are sad times :(

Bit like the Alpine going flat and it not being a brewing problem, despite it happening all over at the same time.

Carbonation. If it's not done properly at the brewery it won't carbonate properly in a keg as the pressure is only high enough to push the beer out of the keg and stop it decarbonating. Seems to be limited to individual brews so it doesn't happen everywhere.

I don't drink it myself but having asked the question of my drinking partners they all say to a man that it is bang on OK. Lines, Glasses, all variables but no reports of a bad batch so far.

The beer in my local tastes fine, however its like being in a german beer hall, massive heads constant topping up untill you get anything like a proper pint, the manager says its not his fault, whats wrong any ideas.

The need for a top up is how the brewery gets it's 5% surplus. I have seen pints accepted that cannot have been more than 80% full, and that is both beer and lager.

Whether it's the brewery or landlord I will leave to those who have run a pub to comment.

off course you have to ask for a top up you fool if ness!!!!!!!!!!! sometimes the product comes out at diff speeds and consistency if it dosnt then you know its not true...ive seen the same pump dispense many diff heads within 10 mins (keg) id love for you to not ask for a top up when the heads 5inch thick,,, surplus are us .co.uk
