off course you have to ask for a top up you fool if ness!!!!!!!!!!! sometimes the product comes out at diff speeds and consistency if it dosnt then you know its not true...ive seen the same pump dispense many diff heads within 10 mins (keg) id love for you to not ask for a top up when the heads 5inch thick,,, surplus are us .co.uk

I object to being called a fool and repeat my belief that you shouldnt have to ask for a top up.
The person pulling the pint should be skilled enough to give you a good measure, but if it does require topping up then that person should top it up without the customer having to ask. What is foolish about that. Dont be so insulting next time.

I fully agree! Why should you have to ask, for what you've already paid for? There would be serious trouble if at the petrol pumps, you didn't get the full gallon you paid for.

Unless it's now considered 'normal' for a pint to have, little or no head, then the only fools are those who think they can get away with providing a bad service by delivering a poorly presented pint.

ok aoplogys, but until you have to tackle the very lively barrels and inconsistent dispense speeds which most folk at sams will be aware of sometimes it takes a while to settle and unfortunately a top up is a must, you couldnt just keep pouring over the glass :D

I'm no barman, but from what I observe when I order a pint of Sov. is that it has to be poured slowly, usually the bar staff will start the pour and then start another pint if different or go to the till, they will stop the pour on the Sov to let it settle a bit, sometimes even serving someone else. Then the pint is pulled. I like a pint with a decent head, so the question about top up is how do you want the head, more often than not, if it looks a bit low they will top up anyway, so by and large I have no complaints.

The Sign was in full view for all to see, But I think it will be unfair/unwise to name the pub on here.

ian.

Just to add, All the photo's that I take inside any Sam Smith's pubs are without the Managers knowing that I'm taking them.

Ian, I've noticed very similar signs to this one in some London pubs.

Went in the Brown Cow in York yesterday, new managers. The landlady pulled me a nice pint of Sov. good head on it, asked If I wanted a top up, but it was fine as it was, so as I've said before I've got no complaints with Sams staff.

I do know several Sams pubs that have the signs and many without. Not had to many problems when asking staff or managers for a top up recently.
