Spot on Ian, I'll be walking through Londsborough estate, part of the wolds way, you'll know that of course. My friend Vito owns the pub, since he took over it has become very popular. We're going to Taddy tomorrow, hope to bag a couple of Sams.

Not too sure what a chat room is? Is it something like the snug in a pub where people go to talk? It could be a good idea as long as it dose not take over and have a lot of different threads and Max dose not mind.

How about we give it a go until say the end of May and see how it goes?  If we keep it to just one thread I can't see anybody being too upset about it.

If nobody minds I'll start the ball rolling, I know it was whizz's idea but I don't think he'll mind I'f I take the ball and run with it.

If your manager has a personal licence, and it's not likely that he won't, then he should know that there's no such thing as a 'cocktail licence'!  There are no rules as to pouring mixed drinks other than if a pint's asked for it should be served in a stamped glass or by metered dispense.

Feel free Ian, I dont quite know what you mean by "Just one thread" My idea was general chat on any subject, as one would in a pub.

Chatroom 101:

The traditional internet chat room is a live 'room' where users log in and 'join' the room. They 'talk' by typing and what they're saying can be seen by everyone else who's 'in' the room, who can then reply instantly, which you see appearing in the text area. Very similar to MSN/Yahoo chat, but restricted to registered users of a site.

You can get hold of free chatroom software easily that integrates into forums like this.

Chatrooms can be a minefield. Can you imagine if we all got started on something like the John Snow incident?!

Finally, chatrooms are often associated with the seedier side of the internet...

The mention of Snake Bite reminded me of a tale that my wife told me. Some years ago she bartended for a right tight sod, he never trusted his staff, always thought that he new better. One evening she had made a Snake Bite for a customer, put the pint on the bar, took his money and went to the till. When she turned back to hand over his change he said, "Where is my drink?" indeed she thought, where is it? turned out that Basil,( that was my nickname for him) had swooped from behind the bar, spotted a cloudy pint and chucked it down the sink. The look on his face was a pleasure to see when she told him that Lager and Cider cloud up when mixed. :-X

Thanks OnTheDrink.

My or should I say Whizz's idea is to have a inhouse chat room style thread on here where only our members can use.  See the chat room thread.

Got you, and a good idea.  Easy enough to restrict viewing permissions to members so visitors can't see any posts, let alone disturb the general spirit of things by actually posting!  I think you can also restrict viewing to members with a specified number of posts but that depends on the board software.

I can't see any reason why we should stop non-members looking in, and if they do what to join in, they'll have to join the forum.

ian.

PS shall we closed this thread and move over to the Chat room thread?

I'll be going for a countryside walk and then into a nearby village real ale pub so I wont be going to York and no Sams, do you realise the sacrifice I have made so that my wife can watch the Royal wedding, and if it's on the telly there I'll be extending my walk.

Why not have a countryside walk to a Sams village real ale pub. Guaranteed NO TELLY!!!. Use the search button, sure to find a few. ;)
