"That's not a bad price for a hotel, the most I've paid for a beer in a hotel is around ?11. Now that is highway robbery.

Ian if you think ?3.71 is not a bad price then I feel you have been taken in by the companies who charge such extortionate prices, either that or you have plenty of disposable income.
I have stayed at a number of the hotels within the group you refer to and the accommodation prices are competitive but I never drink in their bars, cant afford it and wouldn't enjoy it anyway at that price.
In my post I stated that my wife did not fancy coming out with me to look around St Helen's and that is why I bought her a drink in the hotel, knowing what hotel prices are like. I don't mind paying ?3-71 for a pint of cider, but I do for when a third is ice.
Re Holiday Inn's, Holiday Inn's are at the top end of the basic hotels and nothing special. It's when you stay at the more better hotels around the world, that is when you start to pay mega bucks. At those kind of hotels I don't drink pints but spirit's and if you book it to your room you have to be very careful as the bill can mount up very quickly.

I've made no secret on here that I'm a building worker. I left school with no qualifications but bags of enthusiasm, I worked f****** hard all my life and I reap the rewards. I had two hobbies in life, walking and travel both of which I did with the same enthusiasm that I showed when I worked.
Out of interest, can I ask if anybody knows how much a pint of cider is in a Sam Smith's pub in London?
