Taddy was 3.7%. I don't think Alpine was anything other than 4.5% but Ayingerbrau was, if I remember correctly, 4.9%.

Visited my local SS pub last week to find the Alpine had gone and been replaced with Taddy Lager.  Tried a pint of Taddy but found it a bit heavy and very malty.  Alpine is much crisper and smoother to drink.

So on my next visit to my local SS pub I stuck to bottled SS Pure Brewed Lager which is far superior to Taddy, but a fair bit more expensive!

My local social club (free house) is still selling Alpine Lager however.  But for how long in it's current form who knows?  Think I'll be visiting the club more than my local SS pub for the time being.

While reducing the strength of Alpine may result in a very cheap pint, I wonder if people will really take to such a low strength lager?  I remember Carling bringing out their C2 brand (2% lager) a few years ago and noticed it in a few pubs, but now you hardly see it anywhere other than in cans in the supermarket.

Hi there riverman, welcome to the forum and thank you for your first post.

I like the Pure Brew lager, but I've never had it in a bottle, nor have I tried Taddy lager.  Can I ask how much you paid?  Didn't they have it on draught?

Thanks for the welcome.

No Pure Brewed Lager on draught at my local SS pub, and can't remember exactly but think it was around ?2.50 for a 330ml bottle of Pure Brewed as opposed to ?1.86 for a pint of Taddy.

I don't buy the pure brew in bottles but belive it's around the ?2.75 range in my local. An expensive night out, Pure Brew on draught is ?2.67.

Pure Brew compared to something like Corona, Bud (copy) or similar is probably cheaper.

DB,

Bottles of tasteless p*ss, sorry, Corona, Bud, etc are knocking on for three quid in my neck of the woods, or well over that in the city centre so Pure Brew, tasty and no chemicals, is a bargain. Just try convincing the Fosters brigade of that though!

Agreed the Pure Brew in bottles in not bad in terms of buying bottles in other pubs, where it is over ?3.00 per bottle now. Some of my local pubs it varies quite a bit.

Must say that the Pure Brew in bottles tastes better than draught, when i have tried it.

The American "Genuine Article" Bud is more or less tastless.  However, the Czech Bud (which is obviously a copy if the American one is "Genuine") isn't too bad at all.

From Wiki:

The original Budweiser Bier or Budweiser B?rgerbr?u, was founded in 1785 in Česk? Budějovice (Budweis), Bohemia, which at the time (until 1918) was part of the Habsburg Monarchy. The company began exporting to the US in 1871.[2][3] In the U.S., Anheuser-Busch started using the Budweiser brand in 1876 and registered it two years later.

I have never had a dodgy pint of Pure Brew yet.  I have converted to it since the demise in the quality of Old Brewery Bitter across the UK - not had a decent pint since The Rising Sun around about April.

I had a couple of pints of draught Budweiser Budvar (the only Budweiser in my opinion, and the opinion of a few courts around the world as well!) last week, and I've often got a couple of bottles in the fridge. Lovely stuff.

One of my local pubs used to have it on draught years ago.  It is also the only one in my opinion too.  The UK was the first country (after Czech) to give it at least equal status to the lesser American one, if my memory serves me well.

Most of the Sam Smith's pubs that i ahve been to have had a decent pint of OBB. There are a few exceptions to this, not sold much or might not clean the line everytime it changes. This is probably due to trying to get the 5% surplus.
