I don't think that it is the first time that manager jobs have been advertised on GumTree.

You are right.  It is not the first time jobs have been advertised on gum tree.  SS does have a knack of advertising in the most unusual places and via some really obscure sites and organisations.  I remember seeing some advertised via an agency in Driffield that didn't have an address or phone number, some months ago.  It is obvious that someone in the organisation is very good at using the internet.

So if you really do want a job with SS don't look in the usual places or just ring him up - after all they are always recruiting.

Has anyone found out if the Manager know that they are leaving yet?

And good at finding places to advertise that are very cheap, if not free. Problem is that they're not exactly places where good managers would think of looking for another job.

I agree Sam's will find the cheapest and less effective way of finding new managers to fill the vacancies that are appearing all over his empire.

Sounds like the Sun Inn, Long Marston; if so I understand the previous Management Couple were pensioned off despite the husband having 18 months to go to retirement as Mr Smith doesn?t employ single managers??

I called in again during our pilgrimage to Marston Moor last weekend, against my better judgment following my last experience since the previous couple left. Not much change ? same old, miserable and  unwelcoming couple and a ?floor cloth? of a dog wandering about at night, Mr Smith better watch his step if he visits otherwise he may get another soaking. Now open all day Sat and Sunday, so could be making a rod for the back of any poor sod who comes in after them, not to mention the cleaning which they will have to do.

Atmosphere at the Boot & Shoe was much better and ended up eating at The Spotted Ox which was fine.

Yes the previous good managers effectively got pensioned off and wouldn't let the bloke stay by himself. Strange decision in the present atmosphere in Sams Pubs.

Is it an oldish relief couple that have this pub still or has it changed again? Finding it hard to keep track of all the management cahnges round the empire at the moment.

Re : Cromwell
I suppose we all make comments, and we all can agree and disagree. I went to The Sun and the Boot and shoe over the weekend. The B & S was as dead as a dodo, got a disgraceful short measure, and found the locals indifferent. I saw two anti Liverpool FC barbs on the walls, which wasn't very nice, and wasn't too keen on the place at all.
The Sun was totally different. Had two pints, served by the old couple, who smiled and made me welcome. The dog, I agree, was a bit off putting, but I enjoyed my second visit to the Sun as much as the first, and will definately go in again if I go for a wander around the York district. The B & S is one I WON'T go in again.

Horses for Courses.

Admittedly I was in the lounge with my own social group so didn?t see any of the paraphernalia you speak of, nor did we really socialise with the locals, but we were made to feel welcome. The beer did have a ?good? head, now whether that is classed as a ?short measure? I don?t know, as most of the beer we are served in our neck of the woods is without a ?sparkler?, but the beer was flowing!

I am but a passer-by and I bow down to more accurate local knowledge.  I have no objections to dogs but in a food establishment whether serving or not does raise questions for me. It will be a year before I am next in the area so I will be adventurous and try both again - in hope.

I've not come across a Samuel Smith's pub run by just one person.  Do you know any which are?

I believe that the Royal Oak, Tadcaster is run by a single manager. Also i think that the Fox & Hounds Stutton is run by a single manager and young lad who does the kitchen. Not sure of any others. Apart from in emergencies, which are happening more and more

That reminds me Ian, Nellie's was run by just Anna, if I remember correctly, and for not an inconsiderable length of time.
