I cant understand why he doesn't take a leaf out of Weatherspoons book. I may be wrong, but I have been into several Weatherspoons and the staff all seem keen and well trained. I cant imagine them being so if they were treated badly.

JD Wetherspoon is the McDonald's of pub trade.  They are (generally) vast caverns of soullessness.

Sam Smiths use to many years ago have proper training courses and were respected in the industry. Nowadays it seems like a conveyor belt type process, which ends up with some bad managers.

There is a large amount of land around Tadcaster owned by the brewery that is purely owned to stop the council or anybody else from owning it. The Falcon is the last piece in the jigsaw for that area and was bought last year by Sam Smith.

Weatherspoons pubs are pretty soulless and dull, give me a Sam's anyday and i can have a great laugh and a joke with customers.  They are the McDonalds of the pub industry. But they do have some lovely buildings
