Derelict land in Tadcaster
« on: Sep 12 - 2011 »
It has oft been mentioned on this forum of Derelict land in Tadcaster that may or may not be owned by Humphrey Smith.

When I was in Tadcaster at the weekend I took the opportunity to take a couple of photos as I was passing by.  This photo was taken on the Tadcaster High Street.  It can also be seen on
Google Street View.

Does anyone know what used to stand on this site?

DB.

Fish and chips were execellent upstairs in the cafe. Who's bothered about architecture on a saturday night when you're 18 and Elvis is in the charts with The Wonder Of You?

Good for you. Is the land owned by SSOB or the Council. Because Humphrey owns the shops right next to it.

Ok thanks. I know SSOB own quite a chunk of Kirkgate as well and thought as it was close to his shops and the central car park that it might be owned by Humphrey to.

It is owned by SSOB, that why it has been like that for 20 years.
There was an archeological dig on it a long while ago,

So, is that why nothing has been done with the site then ? Humphrey has a secret roman stash and doesn't want anybody there to know it's there.  :P

Must say it's looking a little scruffy of late.

I also took this photo of some more derelict land in Tadcaster.  Does anyone know if this is owned by Humphrey Smith or Samuel Smith's Brewery?

Yes i believe that it is owned by SSOB, it use to have houses on years ago. Demolished and flattened now. I think this a ply to stop the council building or making use of the car park.

Yes the timber bollards are a give away, plus there is a sign there saying no right of way across this land, which everyone chooses to ignore.

Maybe so, but still wise to have the notice.  It's like shopping centre's having signs saying..... "this is not a public right way"
