I have been Informed That one of His Managers has at last beaten the 5% Surplus.
At his last Disaplinary, He took a solicitor, Weights & Measures & Trading Standards, To The Old Brewery Offices in Tadcaster.
Trading Standards told Mr Smith that it was Illegal to get a 5% surplus, The Brewery is now Installing Measured Pumps into the Pub he runs.
Does this mean that all of the Managers he has sacked for not achieving 5% surplus, can take him for unfair dismissal?

Well, if it's illegal is that why prices are shooting up by way of compensation for the 5%?

I cannot believe if this is true that SS will revert to metered units for his keg beers! I remenber up to 3 years ago it was SS policy to install metered beer dispensers in WMC's & some pubs but with the advent of increased costs for music & gaming licences he decided to take everything out including the measured units & replace with them with free flow equipment.
Incidently SS is not the only brewery who likes to make more from the punters by short measuring!

I can accept your word, but is there any published information/evidence of this yet?

I can imagine a solicitor going to a disciplinary hearing but the rules wouldn't allow anyone else to take part and you wouldn't get a trading standards officer getting involved in an employment issue. I wouldn't rule out them writing to the brewery to point out the illegality of stating in writing that he won't serve more than 95% of a pint.

I have heard that the manager took his solicitor to the brewery on a number of occasions and Humphrey was the present and attempting to record the proceedings .Yes trading standards and the weights and measures people wrote to Humphrey two weeks ago objecting to his demand of getting the 5% surplus. The managers also took Humphrey away from the brewery and out of his comfort zone. Apparently he was not comfortable and kept stuttering. When i next speak to the managers i shall find out whether there is any written evidence that can be put onto the forum.

The 5% sign has been removed from my local Samuel Smith's pub.

Was still up in mine on Friday, will have a look during after work pints.  Can't imagine managers taking the notices down without being told to as his lordship would be less than impressed.

I can't image it either.

I can't see the managers taking the sign down, & it is still up in my local. Not heard of a new memo from the brewery stating that managers have to take down the sign.
