Selling sweets in Sam Smith's pubs
« on: Jan 30 - 2012 »
I was in the Barley Corn last week and I noticed that they sold sweets, now I'm not 100% sure but I think I've been in other Sam Smith's pubs with the same.  It just seems strange to me seeing a Sam pub selling sweets.

hmm that does seem odd! and yes since the 5% is on all stock including crisps, nuts, bottles and spirits maybe he will expect the 5% on the sweets too!!!!!

Many years ago the last tenant of my local (before managers were implanted) got two holidays each year funded by the sale of Mars bars, Twix's, Crisps etc. This was stopped by the introduction of the new tills that itemised Sam's stock - hence no chocolate and no holidays paid for - Job job Grumphrey!

If that is right then the poor managers must be aiming for 10% on draught products to get the 5% then.

Did not see the paper clip when looking in offline.  I would not put it past him.

Tenants can sell what food they want. It's not the tills that stopped it, just the fact a manager was installed who has to sell nothing but company products.

Correct OTD. I meant that when Managers took over they tried to continue the outsales but were quickly brought to book. Shame reallay as the local kids have a fair old hike to the sweet shop and back!

Don't know of any other Sam's pub selling sweets, but if they are authorised by Humphrey then it must be ok. Can't see him getting a 5% surplus on sweets. I know some managers years ago that had the food franchise they used the money as a holiday fund. As they kept the money made apart from the rent for the kitchen and the equipment. Many managers miss this bonus for their holiday funds.
