There is no branding for Carling, etc. outside.  To me it is similar to Widow Cullen's Well, which too is an old building with a new bit attached to the back.

I seem to remember that one or two members of the forum are in Cardiff...perhaps they could confirm the status.

Also, the stone used to construct the new section at the back looks similar to that used for the extension at Widow Cullen's Well.

BITE seems to confirm that it is a Samuel Smith's pub, especially with the range available:

I can personally confirm that it is a Sam's pub. They moved the original HM Customs and Excise (originally called the Waterguard) just down the road - photos in the pub show it being lifted and transported as one whole building. A new extension was then added on the back - this part of the pub has even made it into an episode of Doctor Who!

was in there last week. Definitely Sams, but keg.
Very unusual with old front & ultra-modern extension at back - looks nothing like a Sams pub.
Very busy Friday tea-time with office staff leaving work.
Definitely worth a visit if you in the area, but not for the keg beer.

Right I'm back from down south and Wales. I visited 10 Sam Smith's pub but 2 were closed.  Over the next 10 post I'm going to get a bit boring, because I liked everyone of them.

Somehow I forget the post code for this one so I had one hell of a job in finding. I drove passed it without seeing it.  I took so many photos that I have to post them in two lots.  Most of these photos will remain for members only.

The price of the OBB was the same in all the pubs that I visited down there.  ?2-22 a pint
