My friends 13 year old has more common sense and intelligence than Humphrey Smith - and that's official!!! And he's just like any other 13 year old!!!
You might find this hard to believe (or maybe you wont)...
The Manager at my local, is due to leave (after about 6 years at the pub, and 29 years at the brewery) to work for another company (one with some common sense, no doubt).
It's her last day tomorrow!!
Now a friend of mine, knows of one of the poor souls who's applied for the job, and had heard nothing after responding the the newspaper ad, a few weeks ago.
Humphrey Smith, telephoned him yesterday (Sunday) to see if he wanted an interview the following day - today. Presumably if successful, to start work 2 days later - this Wednesday!!!
But the silly old git also asked this lad if he was living with his partner. And currently they are not able to, but would be if they got the job. So Smith then said that he wouldn't be suitable - and then before the end of the call, said something like - "but I may be in touch"!!!
What planet is Smith on?
I was talking to one of my staff about this, this morning, who happened to have his 13 year old son with him. His son said, "How can he expect to find anyone for the job, when he doesn't give enough notice?"
Of course, that's what any sane person would think!!!
When I'm looking to recruit, and expand - we usually allow enough time, so that once the letters go out for interview appointment's, there's usually 7-10 days prior to interviews, and then usually 5-6 weeks before appointment of successful candidates. And that can be cutting things fairly close!!!
But maybe Smith isn't quite as stupid as he is always behaving. Maybe his plan is to recruit that quickly - that the poor 'lambs to the slaughter', haven't got time to research (as on this wonderful site), or inspect their 'Contract of Employment'.
And finally, Smith - if you are reading this, here's some free advice..
How to recruit staff
1. Advertise the job in all the right places, giving as much information as possible, so that you can be sure of many applicants, ones who would probably take the post - if offered.
2. Offer a fair and reasonable salary - so as to attract the higher caliber of personnel - it pays in the long run!
3. Give yourself plenty of time for the full interview and assessment process.
4. Give any successful applicant, plenty of notice - so that if necessary - they can give sufficient notice to their current employer. Often, the better candidates are in current employment.
..and the best bit of advice..
Smith - stand down from managing the brewery business - you would be more successful employing a 13 year old to do your job!!!
