First I know we are having a bit of ecconamany slow down at present, but please lets not continue to slow are own buisiness down with silly company blanket policies...
Music & TV's.....
I know that every pub in the chain does not need both but usually one of would help...
Please let the area managers do there job, a mean test or ask the manager which or what would help increase trade.
Hell you could even put a suguestion book or cards in the pub for the customers to tell us what would make them visit more often..
Smokers...
They represent the majority of our customers and yet we offer them nothing in the way of shelter or outside heating, instead we expect them to still frequent our pubs and then stand outside in the cold a wet winter weather to have a smoke...when our competitors have outside heating and shelter to allow them to enjoy a beer and a smoke in relative comfort... come on its no wonder they are leaving in droves....
Food...
Please allow us to do home cooked food agian...
From what i read the number of pies being sold to help save Sarah Brownridge form going under cant really be helping.
Why not employ someone with mass food marketing skills to build up a sales team to then sell the stuff to who it was intented for..
Keep the two seperate or at least make food that can be used to go allong with a home cooked menu.
i.e. produce good frozen chips, scampi or fish, mixed veg and peas, frozen chicken and part cooked frozen breads.
Managers... and there bonuses...
Mr Smith, Please the bonus system that you have in place does not encorage the managers when having a great year to continue to push all the possible profit from your pubs.. You must be losing thousands...
I mean when you know your ahead of the previous year why continue to push as all you are inaffect doing is moving the goal post even further away for the next year... and missing the bonus the next year for a couple of hundred or pounds extra seems silly when infact you could and are actively encouraged to hold buisiness back as to not make it impossible to achieve the next year...
Its the same for bad years, they might aswell be really bad that way when you know you have missed your bonus based on the last year, at least if you miss it by miles there is more chance of achieving bonus the follow year..
Why not just reward hard working manager with a bonus every year based on the profits at maybe a slightly lower percentage.
I.E. the more money they make for you the bigger the recognition... that way all managers would constantly strive to make the place the best it could be...
Please please lets all work together to build trade up to the level we were all enjoying pre music ban.
Also stop employing idiots to run your pubs they will only cost you money ( or sam smiths will be aka the knocking shop pubs, run by theives and dealers), good honest experienced people like you used to have before
