Piegate
« on: Jan 3 - 2009 »
For anyone that missed it - this was an item published in Novembers pub trade Morning Advertiser..

The pies have it at Samuel Smith?s

Looks like major agitation underway in respect of shy and retiring brewer and pub operator Samuel Smith?s. The brewer, which runs around 200 managed pubs, declines to engage with the media. However, somebody has set up a website, www.samsmith.info, which is serving as a platform for discussion of life at Sam Smith?s. Among the many issues being canvassed is owner Humphrey Smith?s decision to act as an area manager to a group of his pubs and what can be only be called Piegate ? the merits (or otherwise) of the decision to serve a pie-based menu across the estate.

Always in support of the Samuel Smiths Brewery - although very concerned about the current company strategy towards its staff and customers, as exercised by the Directors. We believe in promoting common sense, decency, compassion, fairness and compliance with company, employment and English law.

well im glad to see something in the press at last even if they do seem to have printed it in a joking maneer, believe me it is no joke to those that are trying to hang on to there jobs, and are being threatened with the sack if we dont achieve 5% surplus, or we dont break the working time directives, because we dont have enough staff to cover the work that needs doing, or even the fact that we are running kitchens without the necessary hygeine certificates, and all this on less than the minimum wage. the unions promised to help us but its all quiet on that front, come on admin where do we go from here.
