As the owner and administrator of this website, let me first remind all that I have no association with the brewery (other than a loyal customer or one of their hostelries), and I have no association with any union.

However, I am going to personally recommend that any employee not yet registered as a member of a trade union, and is concerned about their job security and working conditions (as all Sam's employee's should be), should seriously consider joining a trade union today - right now.

Why? Well I strongly believe that with the worsening climate of the brewery policies, the support and professional advice from such a body, would prove invaluable - and worth the very small cost.

Furthermore, the unity of everyone, will probably be the only defense against Humphrey's tyrannical, inhumane, and illegal regime. So let's not be down-trodden, let's do something positive - right now.

Now as many members of this website will know, the most pro-active union, representing Sam Smiths employees, and certainly the most prevalent on this website - is the GMB. And therefore I would consider it quite beneficial to join the professionals who are already dealing with a number of Sam Smiths cases. So here there's a good chance that any action could be more effective, and handled more swiftly, as early cases set a clear precedent.

The GMB Union..

Every day of the year GMB Workplace Representatives are solving members' problems and providing expert guidance and advice to members at work on a range of issues including:

    * hours of work
    * pay
    * work life balance
    * job security
    * pensions
    * health & safety
    * legal advice
    * how to deal with bullying and harassment
    * equality at work
    * disciplinary and grievance matters

GMB has almost 20,000 GMB trained Workplace Representatives - members who voluntarily give their time to  negotiate, advise and represent work colleagues who are GMB members.

Backing up these GMB Workplace Representatives is a network of full time GMB Organisers and specialists who are experts in the world of work.

Low Cost - Peace of Mind..

   * Full Membership - ?2.50 per week

   * Part-time (20hrs or less & under 18's) - ?1.38 p/w

   * Sick and unemployed members = 5p per week

   * Retired life members ?25 one off payment

Mike Williamson, GMB Branch Secretary, is a member of this website, and can be messaged through the site, emailed, or telephoned on: 0785-580-2421 You can also view his forum thread at this website, here

Finally..

I know there are other unions, who may operate just as effectively. And being a member of any union, is certainly a safer senario as a Sam's employee - rather than being a member of none. However, the GMB has to date, been the only union to actively use this facility, to try and help Sam's employees in the same spirit as I had created the website. And it would appear that Mike is good enough to keep all informed regarding various developments - through this website.

Always in support of the Samuel Smiths Brewery - although very concerned about the current company strategy towards its staff and customers, as exercised by the Directors. We believe in promoting common sense, decency, compassion, fairness and compliance with company, employment and English law.
