Well Humphrey Smith - you've done it again!! You've proved that when it comes to managing your pubs, you are completely inexperienced, and should leave it to someone else.

And to what cost your inexperience? Another pub going down the pan - the one I've supported for 30 years!

After Smith got rid of the very popular, and highly experience and successful couple John and Jo - he replaced them with what I believe to be a well meaning, but much less experienced couple - which I'm sure Smith will see reflected in their sales figures.

The new couple would appear to be trying to work with the new staff hours cut backs - and I feel so sorry for them because the pressure is beginning to show.

So after about a couple of weeks of John and Jo leaving, what's happened?

  • Rubbish all over the courtyard
  .
  • Gents toilets flooded and smelling
  .
  • A forest of dirty glasses on every table throughout the pub
  .
  • Lots of under-aged youths sneaking into other rooms, and getting others to buy them alcohol
  .
  • The largest room (upstairs) being closed most of the week
  .
  • Waiting time to get served on a weekend, now longer than it takes to drink it.
  .
  • Miserable / angry people everywhere, frustrated at waiting silly times for service
  .
  • Fresh glasses on the shelves, all with a white residue coating
  .
  • Empty (aluminum) barrels left in the public car park all week. (We've got a book going to see how long before they start getting stolen).
  .
  • Many of the 'bad crowd', undesirables, returning
  .
  • Very poor rapport between managers and customers - leading to reduced co-operation.
  .
  • Lots of shouting, singing, and general yob rowdiness

..and it's still early days yet!

I've read that Smith believes as his prices are low, people will be prepared to wait longer. Well I don't know what drugs he's on - but in the real world, that does not happen. I and others have witnessed hundreds over the weekend, walking out after waiting for say 10 minutes. And that's exactly what I'm now doing too. Of course our neighboring pubs are benefiting big time.

Well done Smith - you've cocked it up yet again!!  >:(  You obviously don't want our loyal custom anymore.  >:(

Why do you spend your money their, if it is so bad?

Surely the ultimate protest is not go in and spend your hard earned elsewhere ???

That has already started to happen. Especially when its busy, as its quicker service, and less glass cluttered environment at other venues, with at least 8 within under 5 minutes walk.

The problem is see, that after 30 years as our local, our allegiance is to the place, and not the Gestapo brewery director. Also watching it all fall apart, is difficult not to watch - 'rubber necking' if you like. it's like watching a car crash happening in slow motion, right on our door step.

And now all of the music and other entertainment has been banished - it's about the only entertaining thing left!  :D

Minsterman,

I sympathise with your situation - it's terrible to see your local pub going down the nick, I know how you feel - mine's the same.

The true cause of this happening in any location is not primarily the fault of the hard pressed pub managers, but the culture and actions of the man in charge at the top.

Take a bow, Humphrey - is there no limit to your talents?
