I have to say that it is highly dangerous to be riding a motor bike after a few pints of Sovereigne[I can never spell that word]so perhaps Humph is thinking about safety.

Well that would apply to all vehicles, no?

A group of us had to go the Eagle on Saturday afternoon. Had a fantastic time, great beer, very friendly bar staff/management. Made to feel welcome all the time we were there.

Can the staff move to York please?

How busy was it?

Is obb not recommended in London?
Hope to visit Princess Louise and Cittie of York shortly, I've had a decent pint in the latter but quite a few years back, is it crap now?

Many of those that I knew had the white/black exteriors with gold lettering identity and could be spotted a mile off. The story I heard was that a certain person made it on to the Sunday Rich List and so decided to "anonymise" the pubs to make it more difficult to value the estate. Not sure whether true or made up but they all seemed to end up a non-descript brown and "Samuel Smiths" free. Pity really.
Still occasionally hear people at the bar say "ugh, didn't know it was Sam Smiths, lets go somewhere else.."

And conversely - oh great, it's a Sam's pub, i'll get em!

Oh, of course!

ps meant "Sunday Times"

Owen - maybe he doesn't want to risk getting barred from a pub he's used for 35 years?

Anyone else see the film The Twenty Questions Murder Mystery on Talking Pictures on Freeview last night? The journalists met in the Cheshire Cheese every day so it featured many times in the film (or a mock up of it at least, don't know as I'm not too familiar). Dr Johnson was mentioned. There was a shot of the yard with what was maybe "Shabby's" on a sign possibly where that white wall is in the photos

Just got a glimpse of t' Golden Ball on the TdY on telly, couple of flags on the side. What other SS pubs are on the route, have any been done up for it?

Yeah, me too. Can anyone make out the street name?

Shame about this. They sold Sam's a long time ago, I haven't been in for nearly forty years so don't now about more recently.

(stretching it a bit calling it a York pub?)

Please, not again especially you DB!   ;D Though I do agree regarding the price.
Petrol doesn't have a head on it, and it's not relevant to beer. And there will be a discrepancy even with petrol, electricity, gas, water or whatever is measured.  Dispensed beers only has to be 95% liquid, end of, that's the industry guide line. There is no legal obligation to give anyone more.  :U

Amen to that!

Hi bb, it is hard to believe that the area was like that back in the day, wonder why they left the pub standing as it would have been in the middle of a demolition then building site for a long time

Samuel Smiths - Ex Pubs / Re: Albion Hotel,Leeds

Last time I was in the Eagle it was still selling Tim Taylors!

I was in on the first day they switched back to Sams. Sadly, it was a much busier and more cheerful pub  in the TT days from my experience
