General Discussion / Young Sam and swearing
« Last post by nobody on Jul 7 - 2017 »
Been told a few days ago that Humphrey told young Sam to do the round of the pubs to see if anybody is swearing. The thinking behind it is that he is not that well known in the northern pubs.    If he does hear swearing his orders are the sack the staff and managers and close the pub.     I'll leave it up to you if you believe it, or whether it's the rumour mill working overtime.

When we visited recently there was no one in swearing and it was a very busy Saturday afternoon

My guess would be that a local has complained about the noise, some bikers tend to overdo the acceleration when setting off. If they have written to the brewery then this sounds like the action Humphrey would take.

Er, considering H has been banned for drink driving ( due to having a half in the pubs he visits to check the beer ), on more than one occasion, indeed I believe he is currently banned, I doubt that worrying about bikers and safety is uppermost in his mind, if at all.

Indeed so.

Your news.. / Re: Rockingham Arms Closure

Just to clarify this situation.
Many rumours have been generated and in some instances some  are malicious ,the fact is yes the management couple were intending to leave.
Some clowns in the bar chose to aggravate the swearing ban and made a situation worse by provoking Humph by swearing .
The manager was on his day off  at the time and didn't see who was swearing and refused to bar the idiots.
Humphrey took offence to this and next following day sent him an official written warning .
This was the straw which broke the camels back so to speak.
They banked the takings the following day and left shortly after this locking the pub up.
We regulars were denied our local for 6 weeks.
If you don't like Smith's policies go drink else where ,some of us prefer our pub open for business.
You don't win with Smithy.

No one should drink and drive to state the obvious! However, there are those in society that think this or any other law doesn't apply to them. These people exist in most fraternities and can been seen on a daily basis. So I don't think H will be thinking anymore than he should be about road safety.

I have to say that it is highly dangerous to be riding a motor bike after a few pints of Sovereigne[I can never spell that word]so perhaps Humph is thinking about safety.

Well that would apply to all vehicles, no?

With the cost of the bikes, training, equipment and insurance plus the fact motorcycling is (sorry to say this) not a youngster's hobby, the ban ostracises a well mannered, relatively affluent and responsible group of people.
