No motor vehicles. Gas lighting. Going by the dress 1890s?

Looks about right. Definitely Victorian.

A little light Googling suggests that the advert on the side of the pub for Laughtons Wines and Spirits suggested that they were a supplier to the pub at the time - the reference to Bass is very common as bottling Bass locally was how many beer wholesalers and pub operators started off, and some of them are still going now, including Sir John Fitzgerald in Newcastle, who used to sell OBB in several city centre pubs. Even companies like Matthew Clark and LWC can trace their roots back to Bass bottling. Interestingly the Scarborough-born Hollywood star Charles Laughton was a relative http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Laughton

Wow, that is an old one. The road called Sandside doesn't seem to have been constructed when this was taken!

Welcome to the froum and thanks for your first few posts. Interesting that you have found out about the histroy of the Golden Ball. The OBB was great when I visited this pub fairly recently. Keep up the good work.
The opinions that I express are my own !! A Fan of SSOB products. Time for a pint of OBB

3 mates the wife and myself popped in for a couple last night. Beer on top form as always.  Now some may remember that last year on our yearly night out in Scarborough we took the wife in to the local dustmens social club, well this year we went up market  C==CC and blagged ourselves into the anglers  club. Too our surprise when we left we was told that we was welcome to return anytime we where in Scarborough.   Our taxi back to Filey was a disco taxi,   :P  see last photo below.

Called in earlier this year - easily 1 of my Top 10 Sam Smith houses (of the 60+ have so far visited) and, mercifully, does not seem to have been affected by the flooding.

Just discovered this site.  For me part of the charm of the Sam Smith 'experience' is that it doesn't follow the latest trends.  It's always a treat to stumble across one of their pubs (eg TGH next to the Oxford Union) so have mixed feelings but suspect will be consulting it before my travels ...
