It's maybe 400 to 500 yards from a bus route.  I'll sort out the bus # out for you if you wish.   I think that the bus may also pass the other sam's pub.

You want bus#41   http://lothianbuses.com/assets/files/RM130324.pdf

Here is the route and timetable for #41  http://lothianbuses.com/timetables-tickets-maps/timetables/41

You get off at Whitehouse Road / Cramond Road North.  Walk down Cramond Glebe Road then Cramond Village (road) the pub is on your right at the bottom of the "hill". If you get your feet wet, you've gone too far.    :D

Here is Cramond Glebe Road from Cramond Road North.  http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2668932

Edit to add.

#21,29 and 42 pass the Doo-cot  and #27,37 pass within 100 yards of it.

Cheers much appreciated. The mrs response was oh god, but after some  wonderful pubs in London, she might become more enthusiastic about what I call " The Tour "  :-*

Mike a bit of advice, don't take the wife to Corby.  It would be the last Sams pub she would set foot in and you'll get a ear bashing to boot.

Cheers for that . Might nip in on my own. She's been in a few rough ones the Adam and Eve, Viking etc, but I don't want to push it. After some great pubs in London I've convinced her that most left are places she'll enjoy lol

The plot thickens! A few pi**-poor basic journalism errors in the story but interesting all the same, especially the bit about Sams not owning the freehold which I didn't know.

They have been clever and applied for occasional licences to cover them till the next licence session.

Pretty sure its owned by the brewery.

The article refers to 300 pubs.  This is the first external reference to 300 pubs that I have seen.  Most quote 200 (from the Brewery). Only this site (as I know of) states 300.

It is not unknown for the Brewery to lease pubs.  Cornhill Vaults in Lincoln was leased.  The article states "the building?s landlord".  At first I took this as meaning the owner of the building, and thus it is leased by Samuel Smith's.  However, could this be just badly termed and actually mean the "pub landlord", ie the manager?

"the chain is known to allow each of its pubs to ?maintain a certain degree of autonomy" NOT.

Must admit I didn't think Landlord was a reference to the manager as it refers to them surrendering the premises licence which a manager would never usually have in their name, but now you mention it I suppose nothing strange about how the company is run should come as a surprise, and they are advertising for a new manager.
