Name: The Brigadier Gerard - Location: York

Address: 84 Monkgate, York, North Yorkshire, YO31 7PF [01904 642612]
Always in support of the Samuel Smiths Brewery - although very concerned about the current company strategy towards its staff and customers, as exercised by the Directors. We believe in promoting common sense, decency, compassion, fairness and compliance with company, employment and English law.

If you are into horse racing, then you must visit this pub when in York.

Enjoyed some cracking BBQ's there on a Sunday afternoon (a long time ago!) when you were allowed to enjoy yourself. In my day Howard and Sue were great hosts.  AAhhhh - memories.

This is another lovely pub with the old partitions of woodand glass. The horse acing theme is lovely to see in a city like York. Got a decent pint as well. Will go back
The opinions that I express are my own !! A Fan of SSOB products. Time for a pint of OBB

Called in yesterday. It's all looking quite worse for wear now. I wasn't impressed.

The bar staff ignored me, not once or twice, but three times to serve the locals before me even though I was standing there waving my money.

And they don't allow dogs in.

i won't be back.

That's another SS pub I can cross off my list.

Must say that I have not been impressed with this SS pub for a while now. I have still visited it jsut for research and to see what is happening around the empire. How many are crossed off your list now Canaldrifter ?

Some SS pubs do have a tendency to serve regulars first, which is bad news for members.

Four. I'm not saying which ones apart from the BG. The other two were because I had a really bad pint of OBB in one. I'm sure it had been laying in the pipes too long. And in t'other I was the only customer and it didn't have hand-pumps. (I can see that that is a vicious circle!). No hand-pumps at the Kings Arms is understandable, but it is also a friendly pub with some interesting regulars.

Mind you (best kept secret in York) the York Brewery pubs have a happy hour all day on Thursdays. Centurions Ghost, which I rate almost as good as SS Extra Stout is then sold at ?2.20pp. I like York on Thursdays!

(Reaches for coat)

Four out of 308 is not too bad. Yes I have had a bad pint of OBB in quite a few SS pubs. Not sure whether I was the only customer drinking it that day, or just not used that often. Can be a vicious circle as you say. The King's is an interesting pub, with some great regulars.

Enjoy your day out canaldrifter  C==CC

Well..... it's 4 out of 5 SS pubs that I've been in. But I keep an open mind.

Enjoy your day out canaldrifter  C==CC

I did.... in The Last Drop Inn. And they do music. The Two Bobs next Tuesday. I will be there. I don't mind paying a bit extra for the beer if there is good entertainment laid on.  (HS take note.)

And to the guy here who once accused me of complaining, yet still drinking SS cheap beer in the same pub.... get real. I'm drinking elsewhere most of the time.  Cheaply too.

You said you'd give up SS pubs if I did. I have for now. Now it's up to you, fella.

Hi all,

I've heard (a little late!) that the landlord is leaving on 1st April.

Anyone know if he's been given the boot?

Called in last evening for the first time in a while. The language of several of the locals was disgraceful. Hope a new landlord kicks the culprits out.
