MPs call for lower drink-drive limit and tougher drink-drive laws
Monday, August 11, 2014

Quote
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Alcohol Misuse has called for stiffer drink-driving laws including a lowering of the drink-drive limit form the current 0.08%BAC to 0.05%BAC. This is the most widely enforced legal limit across continental Europe and both Scotland and Northern Ireland already have plans to introduce it. The All-Party Group wants it introduced across the whole of the UK with younger drivers under 21 targetted first.

The lower limit is one of ten recommendations the Group has made in a report published today. Others include cigarette-style health warnings on wine bottles, a minimum price per unit of alcohol, stronger rules governing advertising alcohol products; and the appointment of an 'alcohol tsar' to oversee the policies. The All-Party Group is calling on the political parties to adopt the recommendations in its report.

Could a minimum price per unit of alcohol push up the prices in SS pubs?

The minimum price that's currently proposed is 50p per Unit of Alcohol, so that's still just ?1.15p for a pint of 4% beer.  The targets for minimum pricing are off-sales of cheap white cider and paintstripper voddy.
