Always in support of the Samuel Smiths Brewery - although very concerned about the current company strategy towards its staff and customers, as exercised by the Directors. We believe in promoting common sense, decency, compassion, fairness and compliance with company, employment and English law.

Used to be some of the best (and reasonably priced) food in the county before 'ping pies' came into being. Shame. :-(

I can remember being told that I was sat on someone's bar stool in there one day, and when I queried it, I was shown a brass plate screwed to the stool frame with one of the directors names engraved on it!! In fact I think there was two of them (stools that is).

Lovely place to be in winter, huge log fires blazing away, warm as toast.

Is the "toast" cooked in the microwave too?

Been through Tadcaster today, and went into the Angel & Whitehorse.Somebody said that it used to be two separate pubs and that originally it was called the Londsebrough Hotel. Just come across this article about it, does anybody else have any more information.

Found this photo a while ago on Francis Frith website and dug around a little to find the same information you have.

I would say that the photo is of where SS office is now and the pub is out of shot to the left.

The caption for the photograph says that it is circa 1955.

It was originally a pub called the White Horse before becoming the Londesborough Hotel according to: http://www.archive.org/stream/twothousandmiles00bogg/twothousandmiles00bogg_djvu.txt

This also suggests that there was a second coaching inn called the Angel. I'm guessing Sam's bought them and combined into the Angel and White Horse.

There is reference to a Londesborough Hotel in 1890 at: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ARY/Tadcaster/Tadcaster90Dry.html

NO, he'll be in the pram on the right hand side pavement with nanny pushing him. :D
