Re date. I was going on the Belisha Beacon. First used from 1934 and the lack of a Zebra Crossing. First used in 1949.  So the early to mid 50s sound right.

Called in the angel today on my way back from york with the wife and my son, they both had sams diet coke and crisps and i had a pint of OBB,the quality of this beer was second to none and that includes joey holts, hydes, robbinsons and cains which is the usual tipple in my area.I also met an old guy who was a former brewery worker and he told us some old tales from times past and made us all feel so welcome, the shire horses looked in tip top condition and credit should be given to the staff who look after them and also to the people running the pub as it was spotless both inside and out,can anyone reccomend a good local b&b so i can have a good drink in these wonderfull ale houses and park the car up!..cr.

I believe this pub is going to have quite a large makeover in the new year. They are altering the interior back to 5 rooms again and adding a fireplace and modifying the historic chimney. Also seem to be modifying the porch and internal door. Assuming they are also replacing the wall paper and carpet. It is shutting for 4 weeks in january i believe. When i have more time will go and ask.

Rumour is that it may not be closing in January for a refurb.
Reason - SSOB are allegedly short of money!

Have heard a similar rumour, can you imagine them running short of funds. Also that its February now and not January for the refurb.

I enjoyed a couple of fine pints of Alpine on Sunday on my trip back from York, however what is going on with the notice pasted to the wall with blue insulation tape. Do Sam's not strecth to blue tac or drawing pins?

Was the Alpine on sale as well as (sch) Tadcaster Lager, in Tadcaster? :)

All Managers got a letter recently, saying that they should not buy and put anything  on the weekly sheet unless authorised by Humph?
