Called in the old red lion Leeds last night and how empty the place was. There were maybe 4 people in. Anyway the main point is that I ordered a pint of lager and talk about a short pint I really don't think there was much over half a pint in the glass. I asked for a top up, this brought the pint upto around 3/4 but still a VERY short pint. The manager ODVIOUSLY has no pride in his work or any concern for customer services. And yes I hould have requested a second top up, but this would have been like saying "hey mate you cannot do your job!!!"

It seems that the 'no gays allowed' rule is being 'enforced' in one of his pubs anyway...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-13087715

Personally it doesn't bother me one iota if they are straight, gay, transsexual or even Lancastrian, ( :P ) everyone should be able to enjoy a good social life without fear of intimidation, especially from 'mine hosts'.

Heck, the one I work in has a fair number of gay customers,  and they behave better than most of our more 'socially acceptable' regulars!

I have heard through the grapevine that the new manager of the Old Red Lion Leeds, who caused all the controversy by, as it was alleged, pushed out the gay customers is now moving out himself. Does anyone know anything about this or is it just rumour ? he has only been there a matter of weeks but has ruffled a lot of feathers.

Rumour has it that the manager is going to the Nags Head at Chapel Allerton, did he jump or was he pushed? Sadly there is now a very rough element who stand at the bar effing and blinding all the time and the manager does nothing about it. Decent people are coming in but only have one drink and leave never to return. So much for Humph wanting to attract the yuppies, it will never happen until someone gets a grip and starts running the pub properly rather being on the mobile phone all the time and/or stood outside having a fag.

Having used the Old Red Lion for a number of years until three or four years ago I for one am pleased to see a change. In no way am I homophobic but they were intent in taking over and needed to be told this is a "public house" and not just for gay men, lesbians and TV's. Nor was it a social club for their use only. The new manager is very abrasive and clearly has graduated with honours from the Humphrey School of Charm and Diplomacy, no doubt when he has been put in his place by customers he and his partner will come to realise they are there for the customers benefit and not the other way round. It would be helpful if customers knew what the opening times were rather than him just shrugging his shoulders when asked.

Having said that I am pleased that the dross that used to go in there during the day no longer do so and assume they now frequent the Duncan or Elliot which is where they belong!

Thankyou for your apology and I bear no hard feelings over it. It takes guts to come on a open forum and admit that you are wrong. The "dross" subject is now closed for me.

Welcome to the forum and your first posts trix69x and Jack Black

So has the manager actually left Sam Smith's or jsut been shuffled to another pub (unlikely if not doing a good). Humphrey normally only moves managers around if they have been with Sams for over a year. I know one couple that got moved because some letters and a protest went to the brewery. Didn't make a bit of difference.
The opinions that I express are my own !! A Fan of SSOB products. Time for a pint of OBB

Humphrey Smith owners 50% of the Brewery.  His brother Oliver owns the other 50%. Their older(???) sister owns nothing, as far as I am aware.
