I came across this travel report about Beverley, and has a section on Nellies - I found it quite interesting, personally, even though it was written in 1994.

Thankyou for that DarkieBoy.

Reading it I think the person who wrote it must have had a few too many, when he say it only a half a hours drive from the A1.

This is my photo of Nellies in Beverley, copyright to me!  It was taken on Sunday 30th May, 2010.  Maintenance work to the brickwork can be seen to the bottom few layers of brick, which has been discussed on this forum recently.

The pointing looks no better in your photo then in real life.  It would have been better if there had used a little colouring in the mortar.

It might just need weathering in...I'd suggest painting yoghurt on to it.

If you do that, all the dogs will lick the walls instead of peeing up then. ;D

Nice photo DB, I notice the front door is closed - what time did you take it?

Also a builder friend of mine had to build several small walls using different colour / type mortar before council would approve use on some refurb work - so don't think they would be very chuffed.

Notice the Corner House pub in the background, were all are migrating to. There's at least 16 hand-pulls there, costs more, but now better. Nellies is losing it's regulars who are being replaced with some rather dodgy characters. Shame!  :(

That's what is recommended...not sure if dogs would like it or not!

Thank you delboy.  The photo was taken at 16:44 on the 30th May, 2010.  I noticed the Corner House while I was there, but thought it looked like a cafe from Nellie's side of the road...if I'd known I would have gone...not many pubs have more pubs than mine (ten with nine different beers). The customers seemed okay when I was there..."mature" with banter in the bar.  I'll definitely be going again, especially since we didn't get charged for the train there and back from Hull!  Got the bus from Hessle, after walking over the Humber Bridge (and back again after midnight).  Not a bad walk really. ;D

Cheers,

DB.
