OBB just not right
« on: Mar 9 - 2015 »
Anyone noticed that the taste isn't quite right this week. Well I have it good authority the beer was too light due to the hops in use so to darken it they added a fair amount of mild to give it depth of colour. This will also affect the strength.

Who or what is this "good authority "
Hops do not affect the colour of beer, they are used for bitterness.

Yep factman has it. Hops are for the after notes and bittering. Its the malt that gives it colour and body. The malt comes from thomas fawcett and sons in castleford and is top quality so your problem won't lie with them.

I stand corrected on the Hops, I'm quoting the whistle blower and for good reason I would not want to endanger the persons employment.
However correct me if I'm wrong on the taste of this latest batch of OBB (cask)

'Adding Mild'? Anyone with even the slightest idea of how beer is brewed knows how much this is cobblers on so many different levels! :()

That's the whole point - of course they're not doing anything of the sort!  It's incredible that anyone would think that something like that could happen.

Doubt has now been cast that they found a London bus on the moon & aliens turned someone into fish fingers, as I was told this once!   :WF

Here is my  recent experience,,,, better late.....?

In the Swan, Holmes Chapel:-
Well, he spent a fair wad on the Swan, Holmes Chapel. Beer not too good when tried, at least cask is back, but with a caveat of mine, see my  post in 'news' forum! (It tasted, smelled and looked like Sov!).

I wasn't impressed with the cask OBB in The Jolly Sailor in Whitby and The Swan and Signet and it did taste a bit weak and watered down yet the best pint I have had recently is in the Prince of Wales in North Shields.

Nice to see the Prince of Wales, North Shields given a mention - being a frequent visitor it is rare that you get a poor quality OBB on cask. Although I have to agree with other 'suppers' of the nectar there have been a few times recently the full bodied flavour just hasn't quite been there.
