I have no documentation to this fact but i have been told by someone within that company. Although the bosses of oakwell had to swear an oath of secrecy i do not but i cannot and will not divulge my source. Humphrey could have just come clean two years ago and let the decent managers of oakwell pubs take on his beer. He wouldve had money in his piggy bank instead of letting good pubs sit rotting for the past two years!!!!

As  far as I am concerned, no proof = no fact and putting it in capital letters doesn't change that. We have all read theories, ideas, conclusions etc on here which turn out to be pure fantasy.

There may be a connection between Oakwell brewery and the Smiths but there are a lot of people on this site doing a lot of research and no one has come up with anything definite.

Until something is proved, I remain sceptical.

There is plenty of stuff to be found online, local paper reports, Camra etc., there is not a whiff of SS being involved. Personally, I do not see it or believe it. Why buy back such as the Stanton? If there was no business case all those years ago, when sold off to Shipstones, it's a lot less likely to stack up now. And why would these pubs be stood empty, hoping to attract a landlord when SS is only interested in managers? With all respect, it simply dunna add up. And talking of Shippo's, it was resurrected about 2 years ago, God knows why, it were always a lousy pint. Now followed by Home Ales. Being brewed by Oldershaws apparently, but the people involved want to return to the original brewery. Quite how that will work is beyond me as Notts County Council own the nice façade building etc. and surely the well was capped, but there you go, all power to their elbow!

In my experience any statement ending with FACT is anything but factual.  In fact, RBNB Ltd, the company that owned Oakwell and the pubs is still trading, still with Lynne Booth as a director, as is the shareholding company. Testrill Securities, and its nested shareholding companies Mandilion Estates and Mensator Properties. Also still trading is her other company, RBNBC Ltd, And guess what? Lynne Booth is the sole director of all of them.

None of these companies fit with anything we know about how Sam Smiths and the subsidiary companies operate. Their companies and the shareholders are all listed as much as they need to be by law, and there is no real secret about who owns what.

Some info here relating to the closure of the brewery and demise of the Brewery site:

http://www.barnsley-chronicle.co.uk/news/article/7187/time-called-on-oakwell-brewery-after-more-than-120-years

Again, no reference to Samuel Smith's is given.

To find out for sure would it not be a good idea for anyone who lives near one of the nine pubs to have a look through the window,if they are being advertised then surely cellar services would have been in and installed SAMs pumps etc?.

When I get the chance, i'll have a look in The Stanton. It's looking very run down now. Of course, one of us could ring the number and have a chat!

The Weaver in Runcorn is advertised on jobhopnow website and clearly states Samuel Smiths Old Brewery and the phone number is the same as the nine ex Oakwell pubs advertised on Gumtree, looks like nine more pubs to visit?.

Interesting!

I seem to remember that there was an Oakwell pub in Horncastle, Lincolnshire.  Do we have a list of the "Oakwell Brewery" pubs?

"The CEO of RBNB, the company which owns the Red Lion, has indicated that all 31 of the company’s public houses are being offered for sale at the same time."

Ref from: http://www.horncastlenews.co.uk/news/local/breaking-news-future-of-horncastle-s-red-lion-theatre-is-under-threat-1-6521893

It could be that Samuel Smith's have just bought ten or so of the pubs that RBNB owned.
