Six Bells,Strensall

The Six Bells got its name as the result of a village competition which was won by the then local vicar because the parish church has,you guessed it,six bells. He won a holiday in the Caribbean!.

Quite agree Ian. Would hope that Shann House is pretty full, this time of the year.  :WF

Had an excellent Sunday lunch in the Six Bells today. The pub is under new management. A very friendly capable couple.

Spoke to another couple who have eaten there all week. They reckon the food is always excellent.

Looks like the Six Bells is in capable hands, for now at least. Lets hope the Hump doesn't upset the apple-cart by making impossible demands.

Not been in for a while but called in today, very busy, new managers really turning pub around attracting customers old and new, scaffolding on the roof - the gas fires have gone and real fires back, seats arranged by the fire(bring on winter). The OBB was excellent, staff and locals very friendly, won't leave it so long next time, well worth a visit.

A few of us go in every now and again for an evening out. Went in last night and found out the couple running it are leaving, despite hearing some excellent reviews of the place since they took over.

Anyone any idea why they are going?

Answering my own question!

I've been told they are leaving because of ill-health of the landlord.

Good luck to them and good health.

Thanks for running a decent pub!

I heard from another SS local landlord that they had been sacked. HS waited till he came back from sick leave and then did the deed. Also that another couple in the area were to hand in their notice as they cannot stand the constant demands for higher figures etc. I shan't say which pub as they haven't notified Tadcaster as yet.
