Ebor Inn, Bishopthorpe.
« on: Feb 16 - 2014 »
Gordon Watkins, landlord of the Ebor Inn, Bishopthorpe, will reach his 33rd year of service next month! Is this a record for Sam's? If not, what is the record, and by whom? :DD

Thanks for that, Bitterboy, it is a fantastic record  -  41 years now and a total of 83 in the same family!! Who said there was no loyalty among Samuel Smith staff? :DDDD:

Thanks for posting that pic of Gordon and Lynn, thats the first time ive seen them in 30 odd years since they left our local Sams pub The Eston Hotel.

He was the Eston's first and only tennant Manager and really made a big difference to it, I remember him setting up a VHS machine in the bar and showed movies on a regular basis, he was also always keen to support the pensioners nights and charity do's and the beer and grub was always 100% spot on.

I bet there can't be more than a handful of the Eston's now regulars who can still remember them...A great guy and a brilliant Landlord.

Thanks Bitterboy.

Have just spent a lovely Saturday afternoon visit to the Ebor.  Gordon was his usual jovial self and there was a great mix of locals and tourists in this special pub.  No wonder why Gordan won landlord of the year in 2013.  Sam smiths must be the only company who don't recognise such efforts.  The menu has always been great in this pub.
