Nice picture of the original Plough from 1920,it was demolished in the 50s when Baxtergate was widened.Building to the right is present day Barclays bank and original plough stuck out a good few feet.Interesting to see they did Bass in bottles.Has to be one of the longest in SAMs ownership?.

Found this article from the York Herald,27th Aug 1896.

"For sale by auction the old established Plough Inn,a fully licensed free house in Baxtergate with adjoining shop and house,the total rental being ?45 per annum.After a spirited competition Mr Samuel Smith of the Tadcaster Old Brewery,who was the highest bidder,was declared the purchaser at ?1620."
118 years,one of the longest owned by SAMs I've found.
